If you work in a building with security cameras, there’s a good chance Genetec’s software is running behind the scenes. And according to two newly published industry reports, the company isn’t ceding its top spot anytime soon. Independent analyst firms Omdia and Novaira Insights have both confirmed that Genetec continues to lead the global market for video surveillance software.

According to Omdia’s 2025 “Video Surveillance & Analytics Database Report,” Genetec not only held onto its #1 position in traditional video software but also leads the broader category that combines software with the booming Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) market. This signals that the company’s long-term strategy of investing in open, scalable, and cybersecure cloud solutions is paying off in a big way.

A major driver of this growth is the customer adoption of Security Center SaaS, the company’s cloud platform that launched in mid-2024. The new service has already propelled Genetec into the top 10 globally for VSaaS. In the Americas—the world’s largest and fastest-growing market for cloud surveillance—Genetec has already snagged the #4 spot. The company reports strong momentum for its unified offerings, as security professionals increasingly want a single cloud-based service for both video (VSaaS) and building access (Access Control as a Service, or ACaaS).

Genetec’s dominance is a long-running story. The company has held the number one position in the Americas for 14 consecutive years. In the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, it maintained its #2 position while achieving the largest market share growth among the top 10 vendors. It also ranks #3 in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding China.

“The video surveillance market continues to see steady global growth, driven by rising security demands and faster adoption of new technologies,” said Scott Foley, a Senior Analyst at Omdia. “According to our research, Genetec remains a consistent global leader in the industry for video surveillance software, maintaining top market share and addressing customer needs with innovative products that meet the evolving needs of organizations worldwide.”

Separate research from Novaira Insights reinforces these findings, also confirming Genetec as the global market leader in total video surveillance software and service agreements. Novaira’s analysis also found that Genetec was among the highest-growth vendors across both hardware and software.

At the core of Genetec’s strategy is a steadfast refusal to lock customers into a walled garden. In an industry where proprietary systems are common, the company has long championed an open architecture that allows clients to choose the best cameras, appliances, and access control hardware for their needs.

“The Genetec philosophy has always been to offer customers more choice, not less,” said Christian Morin, the company’s Vice President of Product Engineering and Chief Security Officer. “Organizations deserve the flexibility to deploy solutions exactly the way they want, whether it’s on-premises, in the cloud, or a combination of both approaches… without ever being locked into proprietary systems.”

For over 25 years, the Montreal-based tech company has built its reputation on this open, unified approach, which includes a portfolio of products for video management, access control, and automatic license plate recognition (ALPR). With over 42,500 customers across 159 countries, the latest reports show that its strategy is keeping it firmly at the top of the physical security industry.
