Why Galaxy A55 users in Kenya may wait longer for One UI 8 update even as Korea gets it first

If you had marked ‘2nd October’ on your calendar hoping Android 16 (One UI 8) would land on your Galaxy A55 in Kenya, brace yourself, because you may need to hold that excitement for a few more weeks. Yes, Samsung has begun rolling out the stable One UI 8 update, but not here. And the latest local update just confirmed that Kenya isn’t in the first wave.

Samsung has now officially rolled out the stable One UI 8 update to the Galaxy A55 in South Korea, and it’s packaged with the September 2025 security patch. That confirms something important: when the Galaxy A55 Android 16 update eventually lands in Kenya, it will almost certainly arrive with the September patch included.

However, that good news doesn’t change much for Kenyan users.

Right as Korea was getting the full One UI 8 upgrade, Samsung has just rolled out a fresh update for Kenyan Galaxy A55 units, but it’s not the one you were hoping for. Instead, the device has received the September 2025 security patch, still based on One UI 7 and Android 15.

Now, here’s why that matters.

In regions where the One UI 8 rollout has already begun, the September patch arrives bundled as part of the bigger Android 16 update. But since the Kenyan A55 is only getting the security patch on its own, it clearly isn’t in the current wave for the One UI 8 rollout. That alone suggests a delay of at least a few weeks.

The Galaxy A56 is a perfect example of how Samsung staggers its rollouts. Some markets are already enjoying One UI 8 on the device, but the Kenyan variant? Still sitting on the August 2025 patch. Why? Because Samsung plans to deliver the Android 16 + September patch combo in one go. That means users here haven’t even received the standalone September patch, instead they’re waiting directly for the big One UI 8 update.

Samsung launches Galaxy A56, A36, and A26 with AI features, 6 years updates, improved cameras, and IP67 water resistance for Kenya.

Now, apply the same logic to the Galaxy A55. If it was actually first in line for the next wave of One UI 8, Samsung wouldn’t waste time pushing out a separate September patch based on Android 15. So, when should A55 owners in Kenya expect One UI 8 update?

Realistically, mid-to-late October seems like a more believable window for the Galaxy A55. And even if Samsung has started the rollout earlier in other regions, the staggered rollout adds another wait on top. The only unknown is whether Samsung will bundle the same September patch or jump straight to October’s when the One UI 8 update finally lands on the A55 in Kenya. But based on Korea’s rollout, you should expect the September patch to stay bundled with One UI 8 once it lands in Kenya. It’s unlikely Samsung will repackage it with October’s patch for this device, especially considering how long regional staging takes.

So while it’s exciting to see the update going live somewhere, Kenyan Galaxy A55 users will have to hang tight just a little longer.
