YouTube Premium just got smarter, louder, and a lot more convenient: Here’s what’s coming

If you’ve ever paid for YouTube Premium and wondered what you’re getting beyond no ads, YouTube just rolled out a fresh batch of upgrades that make that subscription feel a bit more worthwhile. And they’re finally reaching more devices.

Team YouTube has expanded some of its latest features across phones, web, TVs, and even Shorts. Here’s what’s changing in your viewing experience:

High-quality audio lands on all mobile devices

If you love watching music videos on YouTube instead of hopping to Spotify or YouTube Music, your ears are about to get an upgrade. YouTube is officially rolling out enhanced audio, not as an experiment, but as a full feature, on both Android and iOS. You’ll get richer sound on:

  • Official music videos
  • Art tracks (those audio-only uploads with static images)

Just note: it doesn’t apply to every random video. Your favourite cat meme won’t suddenly sound like Dolby Atmos.

Playback speed control goes pro (up to 4x!)

Whether you’re rushing through a 30-minute review video or replaying something frame-by-frame, playback speed is now more precise and flexible.

You can now:

  • Speed up videos up to 4x
  • Adjust speed in tiny 0.05 increments
  • Use it across Android, iOS, and web — not just via experimental features.

Perfect for students, tech reviewers, and anyone trying to squeeze a 10-minute recap into their lunch break.

“Jump ahead” comes to smart TVs and consoles

This feature is basically YouTube’s version of “Get me to the good part,” and it’s now available on Android, iOS, web, smart TVs and gaming consoles. Using AI cues, YouTube lets you skip straight to key moments instead of dragging that scrubber around like you’re unlocking a safe.

Watching tutorials, game streams, or product breakdowns from your couch just got way easier.

Shorts aren’t being left behind either

If you’re glued to Shorts more than full videos these days (it’s okay, we see you), Premium is also getting smarter here. YouTube will automatically download Shorts for you based on your watch history. So the next time Airtel bundles refuse to cooperate, you’ll still have something to scroll through. Previously, this was an Android-only feature, but it’s now fully available on iOS.

In another change, now you can keep a Short playing in a tiny floating window while exploring the rest of your phone. The feature is fully live on iOS, but it was already available for Android users.

These changes don’t introduce new features. Instead, they make existing perks more useful by bringing them to more devices. If you’re paying for YouTube Premium, here’s what this means for you right now:

  • Better audio for music videos
  • Faster and more precise playback speed controls
  • Smarter skipping to important moments
  • Offline and PiP support for Shorts on iOS
  • Expanded access across mobile, web, TVs, and consoles

And since YouTube keeps teasing features before slowly rolling them out across platforms, you can expect more of these upgrades over time. If any of these make your YouTube life easier or you feel Premium just got better than Netflix for once, let us know.
