If you’ve been refreshing your Software Update screen hoping to catch Samsung’s new One UI 8 update, good news, your wait might finally be over. The Android 16-based One UI 8 update is officially making its way to more Samsung devices in Kenya and across East Africa, and the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A17 5G are the latest to join the party.
We got a tip from one of our readers (shoutout to Zeph!) confirming that the Galaxy A54 is now receiving firmware version A546EXXUFEYI4, while the Galaxy A17 5G, Samsung’s budget 5G hero that launched earlier this year, is getting the update as A176BXXU2BYID. The rollout is happening over the air (OTA), so don’t panic if it hasn’t hit your phone yet; it’ll show up in the coming days as Samsung gradually expands availability.
One UI 8, built on Android 16, promises a smoother, cleaner, and more privacy-focused experience. Expect smarter app permissions, better multitasking tools, and a touch of AI sprinkled here and there. Samsung’s UI refinements also mean you’ll see more polished animations, new lock screen customization options, and subtle design upgrades that make everything feel just a bit more premium.
For Galaxy A17 5G users, this update is even more exciting because it marks the phone’s first major OS upgrade, not bad for a device that only joined the lineup a couple of months ago.
The growing One UI 8 family
In case you missed it, the Galaxy A54 and A17 5G now join a growing list of devices already running One UI 8 in Kenya and the wider East African region. These include the Galaxy A34, Galaxy A26, Galaxy A15 5G, Galaxy A55, the Galaxy S22 series, and Samsung’s tablets — the Tab S10 and Tab S10 FE.
Samsung’s been on a roll with these updates lately, and it’s impressive how quickly the company is pushing out Android 16 builds to both flagship and mid-range phones. It’s a sign of just how far Samsung’s software game has come. Remember when Galaxy users used to wait half a year for updates? Those days are long gone.
The update should arrive with the usual stability improvements and security patch, so it’s worth grabbing once available.
As always, we’ll keep an eye on which Galaxy devices join the One UI 8 train next.
