Samsung rolls out One UI 8 update to Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) in Kenya and East Africa

Samsung is expanding its One UI 8 (Android 16) rollout to more tablets in Kenya and across East Africa. The latest device to join the list is the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024), now receiving the update as version P625XXU6CYJ5. The update is already live over-the-air (OTA) and brings the September 2025 security patch along with a long list of new features and design refinements.

Notably, the 2024 model of the Tab S6 Lite is the one getting the update — not the older 2020 version. Alongside this rollout, Samsung has also pushed the One UI 8 update to its newer tablet flagships, including the Galaxy Tab S10 and Tab S9 series in the region.

What’s new with One UI 8 (Android 16)

One UI 8 is one of Samsung’s most feature-rich updates yet, refining multitasking, personalization, and cross-device productivity.

Among the highlights are enhanced Lock screen widgets, new options for split-screen multitasking, and a redesigned Samsung Internet experience. Samsung Notes now supports sticky notes on documents, while the My Files app gains multi-pane browsing and app-based file filtering for easier management.

On larger displays like the Tab S6 Lite and Tab S10, Samsung has also revamped Samsung DeX, allowing users to easily switch between tablet and desktop-style interfaces. DeX now supports quicker access by swiping down from the top handle and smoother transitions between modes.

Smarter organization and reminders

Samsung’s built-in productivity suite gets a fresh look too — the Reminder and Calendar apps now feature multi-pane layouts for better use of large screens, easier event creation, and even the ability to manage reminders directly from Calendar.

Security and privacy improvements

Samsung continues to tighten device security with new Knox Matrix protections, which can automatically sign out devices showing signs of compromise. The Secure Folder has also been enhanced, now supporting app closure and notification blocking when locked, as well as complete hiding and encryption for sensitive data.

Enhanced accessibility and personalization

Accessibility sees thoughtful updates, including options to magnify on-screen keyboards, control mouse actions via keyboard, and pair Bluetooth hearing aids directly from settings.

Samsung also added new preset routines and automation triggers through Modes and Routines, plus visual upgrades in the Weather app and richer alarm grouping controls.

The One UI 8 update is currently rolling out in stages, so not every Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) owner in Kenya and the rest of East Africa will see it immediately. You can manually check for it by heading to Settings → Software update → Download and install.

With this rollout, Samsung continues to demonstrate its strong regional software support, ensuring even mid-range tablets like the Tab S6 Lite keep up with its flagship lineup.
