Samsung has begun rolling out the Android 16-based One UI 8 update for the Galaxy A06 5G in Kenya and across East Africa. The update comes with firmware version A066BXXU3BYJ4 and also upgrades the security patch level from September to November 2025.
This marks the device’s first major OS upgrade since launching with One UI 7 based on Android 15, bringing a refreshed interface, improved multitasking, smarter Samsung Health features, and a handful of usability refinements across Samsung’s core apps.
Productivity and usability upgrades
The update introduces a few new convenience features for day-to-day use. Users can now check stock prices directly from the Now bar without unlocking their phones, and Quick Share has been revamped for easier file sharing between devices.
Samsung Notes now supports sticky notes for quick annotations, while the My Files app gains filters to help users find downloads faster. The Samsung Internet browser has also been redesigned with a customizable layout and improved access to frequently used tools.
Smarter multitasking and reminders
Multitasking gets an upgrade with enhanced split-screen support, letting users resize one app to focus on the other while keeping it partially visible for quick switching.
The Reminder app has been redesigned with a more organized layout and now includes sample templates, voice input, and checklist options. Samsung has also integrated reminders into the Calendar app, allowing users to create or reschedule them directly from the calendar view.
Samsung Health gets a major update for fitness tracking
One UI 8 brings a wave of health-focused enhancements. There’s a new Running coach feature that tailors training programs based on user goals, Bedtime guidance to help improve sleep habits, and Running challenges for friendly competition.
New experimental features (Labs) include Antioxidant index and Vascular load tracking, which work with the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch Ultra to give deeper insights into wellness. Users can also set food recording reminders to stay consistent with calorie tracking.
Camera, audio, and communication refinements
In the Camera app, users can now swipe up or down in the preview area to open quick controls, making adjustments faster.
Galaxy Buds users can access settings directly from the phone’s Settings app, eliminating the need to open Galaxy Wearable. On the other hand, the Contacts app has been updated to display recorded calls in the contact history, while profile cards get a visual refresh with easier editing and sharing options.
Security, privacy, and accessibility
The Secure Folder now supports auto-locking apps and hiding notifications for better protection. Samsung also moved the option to show or hide notifications on the lock screen into a more intuitive location under Notification settings.
Accessibility sees notable improvements too, including pinch-and-zoom controls in the Assistant menu, keyboard-based mouse control, and a new Magnify keyboard option for better visibility.
The Android 16 (One UI 8) update for the Galaxy A06 5G is now rolling out gradually over the air (OTA) in Kenya and across East Africa. Users can check for the update manually by heading to Settings → Software update → Download and install.
