Vivo X300 Pro matches Google and Samsung on 7 years of software updates

With the launch of the Vivo X300 Pro in Kenya, Vivo is making an unusually strong promise on long-term software support, one that now puts it in the same conversation as Google and Samsung, at least on paper.

Vivo says the X300 Pro will receive:

  • 5 years of Android OS upgrades
  • 7 years of security updates

That immediately places it among a small group of Android flagships offering extended software maintenance, a category currently dominated by Google’s Pixel lineup and Samsung’s Galaxy S and Z series.

However, there is an important distinction worth noting.

Security parity, but not OS parity

While the X300 Pro’s 7 years of security patches match what Google and Samsung now offer, Vivo still stops short when it comes to major Android version upgrades.

  • vivo X300 Pro: 5 Android OS updates
  • Google Pixel: 7 Android OS updates
  • Samsung Galaxy S/Z: 7 Android OS updates

This means that while the X300 Pro will remain secure for as long as a Pixel or Galaxy flagship, it will fall two Android versions behind before its support window closes.

For buyers who value having the latest Android features for as long as possible, Google and Samsung remain the clear leaders in long-term platform support.

Why this still matters for Kenyan buyers

That said, Vivo’s commitment is still a big deal, especially in markets like Kenya, where premium smartphones are often kept for years.

Seven years of security updates ensures:

  • Continued protection against vulnerabilities
  • Ongoing compatibility with banking and payment apps
  • Longer usable lifespan without forced upgrades

Combined with Android 16 out of the box and OriginOS 6’s performance-focused design, the Vivo X300 Pro is positioned as a long-term flagship investment, even if it doesn’t fully match Google and Samsung on OS longevity.

In short, Vivo has closed the gap, but Google and Samsung still set the gold standard for Android software support.
