Infinix is back with another addition to its Note 50 Series – the Infinix NOTE 50s 5G+, a mid-range smartphone that not only delivers modern specs but also introduces a first-of-its-kind feature: a scented back panel. While the Infinix NOTE 50 Series has not yet launched in Kenya, it is expected to arrive soon. For now, its release is confirmed for India and other select markets, with availability starting April 24, 2025.

According to Infinix, this device sits on the “affordable end of the mid-range spectrum,” but its spec sheet and unique design suggest otherwise.

Full Specifications: A Complete Breakdown

The Infinix NOTE 50s 5G+ features a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display that curves subtly on the edges, giving the device an immersive and sleek appearance. It boasts a refresh rate of up to 144Hz for smooth scrolling and responsiveness, and reaches a peak brightness of 1300 nits, which makes it comfortably viewable even under direct sunlight. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, ensuring durability against minor drops and scratches.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultimate chipset, a 6nm processor optimized for balanced performance and efficiency. The phone comes preloaded with Android 15 and is customized with Infinix’s XOS 15 interface. Notably, it also features the Folax AI assistant, a smart tool for voice-activated tasks like checking the weather, opening the camera, or casual conversation.

Buyers can choose between two storage configurations: 8GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage, or 8GB RAM paired with 256GB of storage. This ensures smooth multitasking and ample space for apps, media, and games.

On the photography front, the Note 50s 5G+ is equipped with a dual rear camera system. The main sensor is a 64MP Sony IMX682 lens, known for sharp image quality and capable of capturing up to 4K video. It is supported by a 2MP auxiliary lens. On the front, there’s a 16MP selfie camera housed in a punch-hole cutout. The device also incorporates Active Halo Lighting around the camera island and dual LED flash for enhanced lighting in low-light scenarios.

Battery life is another strong suit of the device. It packs a sizable 5,500mAh battery that supports 45W fast wired charging. Infinix includes the charger in the box. The phone also supports bypass charging, which helps protect battery health during prolonged usage while charging, and 10W reverse wired charging to top up other devices.

Connectivity options include dual nano-SIM support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and USB Type-C. The device supports both 4G LTE and 5G+ – the latter referring to mmWave support. This ensures access to ultra-fast speeds in select urban areas, though coverage may remain limited compared to standard sub-6GHz 5G.

The Note 50s 5G+ also includes premium features like an under-display fingerprint sensor and dual stereo speakers. It has been rated IP64 for dust and water resistance and meets MIL-STD-810H certification for military-grade durability.

Color options include Marine Drift Blue (which features the scent), Titanium Gray, and Burgundy Red. Infinix has also committed to providing two years of Android OS updates and three years of security patches.

Infinix NOTE 50s 5G+ is an ultra-thin phone with mmWave 5G, Android 15, and a scented back panel.

Ultra-Thin Design

According to Infinix, the Note 50s 5G+ is the “slimmest” device in the Note 50 series. The design includes subtly curved glass on the front and a curved back that contributes to a sleek in-hand feel. Despite housing a large 5,500mAh battery, the phone maintains a thin profile that aligns it more with premium devices than budget handsets.

This emphasis on thinness, while still offering features like IP64 rating and stereo speakers, is an attempt to elevate design standards in the mid-range category.

The Scented Back: How It Works

The Marine Drift Blue variant of the phone incorporates Infinix’s “Energizing Scent-Tech”, which is being described as a world-first for smartphones.

  • The fragrance is infused into the vegan leather back panel using Microencapsulation Technology.
  • Microencapsulation involves embedding tiny capsules of fragrance within the plastic leather surface.
  • When the phone is handled or exposed to environmental stimuli (like heat or friction), these capsules break down gradually, releasing a scent over time.
  • The scent profile includes:
    • Top notes: Marine, Lemon
    • Middle notes: Lily of the Valley
    • Base notes: Amber, Vetiver
  • Infinix says the scent may last for “months after purchase,” although they have not provided exact longevity data.

Why This Combo Stands Out

In a market flooded with specs-first devices, the Infinix Note 50s 5G+ offers three distinct appeals:

1. Modern, Capable Hardware

It offers powerful performance for its price tier, with a high-refresh AMOLED screen, solid camera specs, and 5G+ connectivity.

2. Slim, Durable Build

Its thin form factor doesn’t compromise on ruggedness or aesthetics. It meets military-grade standards and retains premium features like an under-display fingerprint scanner and curved AMOLED.

3. Scented Personalization

The idea of a scented smartphone might seem gimmicky, but it’s also a bold step into multi-sensory design. Whether it’s marketing flair or a legitimate innovation, it gets people talking. It also introduces a form of device personalization beyond software.

Will Specs, Thinness, and Scent Be Enough?

This launch signals Infinix’s push to differentiate in a crowded mid-range market. The scent-infused design might not be essential, but it’s a conversation starter. Combined with high refresh rate visuals, strong battery life, mmWave support, and Android 15, it makes the Note 50s 5G+ a compelling proposition – especially for those who want a phone that stands out both in the hand and in the air.

Whether Kenyan users will embrace it upon launch remains to be seen, but there’s no denying the Infinix Note 50s 5G+ is one of the most uniquely designed phones of 2025 so far.
