The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially released the 2025 KCSE examination results. However, the digital rollout is currently facing significant hurdles.
Cabinet Secretary Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba has announced the release of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results. A total of 993,226 candidates sat for the exams across over 10,000 centers. While the results are officially “out,” accessing them digitally is proving to be a challenge for many this morning.
If you are looking to access the results, here is the official method provided by KNEC, followed by what you need to know about the current technical downtime.
How to access 2025 KCSE results (official method)
According to the official guidelines released by KNEC, the primary method for checking results this year is online via their web portal.
Step-by-step instructions:
- Visit the results portal: Go to the web address https://results.knec.ac.ke. (Alternatively, visit the main KNEC website and look for the “KCSE RESULTS” link).
- Enter credentials: You will need to input the candidate’s Index Number and at least one of their names.
- Accept terms: Click to accept the privacy and access notice.
- Search: Click “Search” to view the results.
Important note on queries: KNEC has stipulated that all queries regarding results must be lodged through the heads of institutions within 30 days of the release. Any queries made after this 30-day window will attract a fee.
The technical reality: 404 errors and downtime
While the instructions above are straightforward, the execution on the backend seems to be struggling.
As of this writing, attempting to access results.knec.ac.ke or even the main knec.ac.ke domain is resulting in timeout errors or a standard “404 Not Found” message.
Given the results have just been announced, it appears the servers are overwhelmed by the sudden influx of nearly a million students and their families attempting to access the site simultaneously. This is somewhat ironic given that the portal went live days ago in anticipation of this very moment.
If you are seeing an error, do not panic. It is likely a server-side load issue. We recommend waiting 10-30 minutes and refreshing the page.
Key statistics from the KCSE 2025 results
While you wait for the portal to load, here is a breakdown of this year’s performance figures shared by KNEC CEO Dr. David Njengere and CS Ogamba:

Developing… we will update this post as the portal stability improves.
