Massive piracy crackdown: 1337x, Fmovies, and 150+ others facing global shutdown (full list inside)

If you’ve noticed your favorite “free” movie site acting glitchy or disappearing entirely this week, you aren’t alone. In a massive escalation of the war against piracy, a coalition of entertainment giants, including Warner Bros., Netflix, Disney, Apple, and Crunchyroll, has secured a sweeping order from the High Court in New Delhi.

The goal? To take down over 150 piracy websites not just in India, but globally. And for the first time, the court is going directly after the domain registrars.

The “global” takedown order

Piracy crackdowns usually involve ordering local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block specific URLs. While effective, this is often a game of whack-a-mole; users just switch DNS servers or use VPNs.

This new order is different. The Delhi High Court has directed Domain Name Registrars (the companies that actually sell and manage the web addresses, like Namecheap, GoDaddy, and Tucows) to lock and suspend the infringing domains entirely.

Registrars have been given a strict 72-hour window to comply. The order applies globally, meaning these domains would stop resolving for users in Kenya, the US, and everywhere else.

Will it actually work?

It’s a gamble. While some registrars have started taking action, reports indicate that most major registrars have not yet complied. If they do, 2026 could genuinely mark the beginning of the end for open-web piracy.

However, the “hydra-headed” nature of piracy means that for every site taken down, mirrors often pop up instantly. But if the domain registrars themselves start enforcing these court orders globally, the infrastructure that supports these sites could crumble.

The hit list: Is your go-to site here?

The complaint targets some of the most popular streaming and torrent sites frequented by users worldwide, including here in Kenya. Below is the list of sites marked in the complaint, organized by their registrar.

Note: If you use these sites, please be aware that they may become inaccessible shortly.

Other major registrars

  • GoDaddy: moviehd.us

  • Hostinger: anitown4u.com, moonflix.in
  • Dynadot: dorawatch.net, pelisflix.cat
  • Dreamscape Networks: moviepire.net

We are monitoring to see if the registrars, many of whom are based in the US or Europe, will honor a court order from New Delhi. If they do, this sets a massive precedent for copyright enforcement in 2026.
