Xiaomi is looking to solidify its presence in the Kenyan market by expanding its “boots on the ground.” The global tech giant, currently ranked as the third-largest smartphone brand worldwide, has announced a recruitment drive for five Sales Supervisors to oversee key regions across the country.
The move comes at a time of significant transition for the brand in the region. This aggressive recruitment follow’s last year’s strategic appointment of new Xiaomi Kenya and East Africa leadership, signaling a long-term commitment to capturing more market share from established rivals.
Expanding beyond the capital
According to the hiring notice, the five supervisors will be stationed in Nairobi, Rift Valley, Mombasa, Western, and Mount Kenya regions. By targeting these specific hubs, Xiaomi aims to move beyond urban dominance in the capital and establish a robust distribution network in the last mile of the Kenyan consumer electronics market.
The role focuses heavily on developing sales channels and managing relationships with wholesalers and retailers. This physical expansion complements Xiaomi’s recent digital strategy, which included the launch of localized websites for Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa to better serve the unique needs of African consumers.
The fight for market share
The timing of this hiring spree is critical. Recent data shows a highly competitive landscape in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. While Xiaomi remains a top contender, the market remains volatile; for instance, Samsung recently overtook Tecno in Q4 2025 to lead the MEA smartphone market. At the same time, Xiaomi’s smartphone market share dropped from 14% to 12%.
To navigate these shifts, Xiaomi is looking for candidates with 3-5 years of experience specifically within the consumer electronics industry. Interestingly, the JD emphasizes experience not just in smartphones, but in the broader ecosystem, including power banks, earbuds, smartwatches, and other mobile accessories. This suggests that Xiaomi is looking to replicate its global AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) success in Kenya, ensuring that every household has access to more than just a phone.
Tracking African smartphone market share trends reveals that brand loyalty is often tied to availability and local support, two areas these new supervisors will be expected to bolster.
How to apply
Xiaomi is calling for applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and a strong existing network of distributors and retailers in Kenya.
Interested candidates are required to send their CV, portfolio, and sample projects to xiaomikenya2017@gmail.com.
As Xiaomi continues to build its passionate team of creatives and tech enthusiasts, the success of these new regional supervisors will likely determine how well the brand can withstand the pressure from Transsion and Samsung in the coming years.
