Samsungβs One UI 8.5 rollout is now properly underway, and several Galaxy phones and tablets have already started receiving the stable update in select markets.
This is the update weβve been tracking for a while now. Late last year, we already had an early look at the Galaxy devices expected to receive One UI 8.5, and more recently, we also covered the expected One UI 8.5 release timeline. Now, the stable rollout is no longer theoretical. It is happening.
Samsung officially started the One UI 8.5 rollout on May 6, beginning in Korea before expanding to more regions a week later. The company says availability will vary by market and model, which is the usual polite way of saying some users will get it now, others will stare at the Software update screen for days or weeks.
That regional caveat matters, especially for users in Kenya and the wider African market. In my experience tracking Samsung updates locally, flagship Galaxy phones in Kenya and Africa are often not among the very first to receive major OS updates. But the pattern is not always predictable. Some Galaxy A-series and budget models occasionally get updates surprisingly early here, while premium devices wait longer depending on firmware channel, model number, carrier approval, beta participation, and Samsungβs own rollout schedule.
So, when we say a device has received One UI 8.5, it does not mean every unit in Kenya already has it. It means Samsung has started pushing the stable build to that model somewhere. Your own device may still have to wait.

Galaxy devices that have received One UI 8.5 update so far
Based on the rollout so far, these are the Samsung Galaxy devices that we confirm have already started receiving the stable One UI 8.5 update:
The Galaxy S25 series is part of the first wave. This includes the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25 Edge, and Galaxy S25 FE. This was always expected, since Samsungβs latest mainstream flagship family usually leads the rollout.
Samsungβs 2024 flagships have also joined the rollout. The Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, and Galaxy S24 FE are now on the list. The stable One UI 8.5 update began reaching the Galaxy S24 series globally around May 18. The Galaxy S23 series has also picked up the update more recently. This includes the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, and Galaxy S23 FE. These devices remain well within Samsungβs update window, so their inclusion was not surprising, but it is still important because the S23 series remains popular in markets like Kenya, especially through retail discounts and imports.
The update has also reached Samsungβs latest foldables: Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. Notably, Samsung skipped the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 for the Kenyan market, at least officially, but that has not stopped local retailers from importing and selling them. So, if you bought one locally through unofficial retail channels, your update timing may depend heavily on the region your unit was originally meant for.
The Galaxy Z TriFold has also received the update. Like the Fold 7 and Flip 7 series, this is not a device officially sold in Kenya, and it was never widely launched in many markets. But for the handful of people importing Samsungβs more experimental hardware, One UI 8.5 is already part of the picture. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 have also received One UI 8.5. These were among the devices Samsung had already included in the early rollout phase, and their inclusion was expected given that they are still very recent foldables.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 have also started receiving One UI 8.5. These two were part of Samsungβs expanded beta testing earlier, so a stable rollout was only a matter of time. Samsung has also pushed One UI 8.5 to the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
The Galaxy A56 is one of the more important additions because it shows that Samsung is not keeping One UI 8.5 locked to flagships. The Galaxy A56 is now part of the stable rollout, which is good news for users who buy Samsungβs upper mid-range phones and expect decent software treatment without paying flagship money. The Galaxy A36 has also received the update. This is another notable one because it confirms Samsungβs latest A-series mid-rangers are being pulled into the stable One UI 8.5 rollout early enough, at least in select markets.
On the tablet side, the Galaxy Tab S11 series has received the stable update. The Galaxy Tab S10 FE and Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ have also joined the rollout.

More Galaxy devices should still receive One UI 8.5 update
This is not the final list. Samsung says One UI 8.5 is expected to reach more than 300 million Galaxy devices in the coming months, so the current rollout is only the early phase. With One UI 9 (Android 17) still in beta, One UI 8.5 is still based on Android 16 and only brings visual changes, customization improvements, and other new features.
Based on Samsungβs recent update behaviour, we should still see more Galaxy devices added over time. But the exact timing will vary widely. Some users may receive the update within days. Others may wait weeks or even months depending on the region and model variant.
This is especially true in Kenya. A Galaxy phone bought from Samsung Kenya, one bought from a local retailer, and another imported from the UAE, India, Europe, or the US may all receive the same One UI update at different times. That is why two people with the βsameβ Galaxy phone can check for updates on the same day and get different results.
Some Galaxy phones will miss One UI 8.5
Not every device that received One UI 8 will automatically get One UI 8.5. Samsungβs half-step One UI updates have historically skipped some lower-end and older models, and that appears to be the case again.
As previously reported by SamMobile, some mid-range and affordable Galaxy phones may not get One UI 8.5, even if they remain eligible for security updates or future maintenance releases. This is not unusual for Samsungβs x.1 and x.5 One UI updates, which often prioritize flagships, newer foldables, newer tablets, and select mid-range models before anything else.
That means users with older Galaxy A, M, and F-series devices should be cautious. Your phone may still receive security patches, and in some cases even a future Android/One UI update, but One UI 8.5 itself may not arrive.
How to check for One UI 8.5 update on your Galaxy device
To check whether One UI 8.5 is available on your Samsung phone or tablet, open:
Settings > Software update > Download and install
If the update is available, make sure your battery is sufficiently charged and use Wi-Fi since the download is large. If nothing appears, it does not necessarily mean your device has been left out. It may simply mean the update has not reached your region, model number, or firmware channel yet.
For Android users, patience is unfortunately part of major OS update experience. The rollout is active, but not everyone will get it at the same time. More devices should be added in the coming weeks, and weβll keep tracking the rollout as Samsung expands the One UI 8.5 update to more Galaxy phones and tablets.
