Samsung had a great 2019, especially in Africa, thanks to the Galaxy A-series for 2019. They were a step away from the past with great specifications at good prices. They brought the competition to everyone, and it was evident in the sales. S
The company itself must have noticed that the devices were doing really well, because they updated them before end of the year. That’s the time we saw the A10s, A20s, A30s, and A50s.
The Galaxy A51 was announced back in December of 2019. Since there’s talks of Galaxy A21 leaks, it means the A-series for 2020 will be called A21, A31, and A51 etc.
The interesting thing about the Galaxy A51 is the design language. It looks like the recently launched NOTE 10 Lite, and the S10 Lite – two confusing devices that bear Samsung’s flagship branding.
From the color, to the square camera setup, to the tiny punchhole selfie, the new Galaxy A51 can easily be confused for the new NOTE 10 Lite and S10 Lite. However, it is much cheaper than the rest, starting at KES. 33,000 in Kenya compared to the others which I estimate will cost an upward of KES. 65,000.
With the Galaxy A51, you’re getting 4 rear cameras with the main lens being the same one on the S10 Lite. There’s a 32MP selfie camera that’s standard on both the NOTE 10 Lite, and S10 Lite.
The display is a Super AMOLED 6.5 inch screen with Gorilla Glass 3 Protection. It comes with 4GB RAM standard, and the option for 64GB or 128GB storage. There’s also a 6GB RAM Model.
This is the first official phone from Samsung in Kenya this year, making it the first to come with Android 10 out of the box. It uses a 10nm Exynos 9611 chipset. And you’re getting a 4000mAh battery with an included 15W fast charger.
