‘Absa Visa Send Money’ service launched for domestic & international remittances

Absa and Visa have partnered to launch a domestic and cross-border remittance service called “Absa Visa Send Money”. The companies say the service will allow seamless person-to-person money transfers and persons-to-businesses payments via the Visa Global Network.

How ‘Absa Visa Send’ Money works:

The solution is a first-of-its-kind allowing Absa debit and credit card holders to transfer money from their Visa card accounts to any overseas or domestic Visa debit, credit or prepaid cards via the Hello Money USSD and Absa mobile banking app.

With the introduction of Absa Visa Send Money, Absa customers will only need to enter the beneficiary’s Visa card details or linked mobile numbers to complete the funds transfer in a quick and secure manner. With Absa-Visa Send Money service, customers can transact at scale, with a maximum transaction value of KES 1 million, for both domestic and international transactions.

All transactions will be completed in a few steps, and customers will benefit from digital and secure remittance service via Visa Global networks that eliminate the need to go to an Absa branch to fill out or re-enter pre-registered information. Absa Bank Customers will also be able to easily send out money to their families for school fees, medical care, shopping or trade partners within and out of the country.

This partnership comes at a time when remittances to low and middle-income countries like Kenya are expected to rise by 2.2 percent to KES66.1 trillion in 2022 as part of the post-pandemic recovery, according to the World Bank. According to a Central Bank of Kenya report, Kenya is currently ranked third among Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest recipients, trailing only Nigeria and Ghana, with a total of KES421.6 billion remitted by Kenyans living abroad in 2021.
