In 2023 March, the Central Bank of Kenya gave us a list of the only 31 Digital Lenders it had approved to operate in the market. This list has now been updated to a total of 51 lenders. This means many more apps are about to go online – on Google Play Store – offering loan services, as it is now a requirement by Google that loan apps in Kenya be approved by the regulator.
Not all the listed lenders run loan apps. However, all of them offer credit services digitally in one way or another. This can be through cash, device financing, asset financing, and more. So, if you’re ever planning to get any of such services locally, make sure the dealer you’re working with is in the list below.

Also worth noting is that not all the approved lenders necessarily trade with those names. For example TALA is the popular name of a lender in Kenya. But from the list, at number 20 you see the company behind it is Inventure Mobile Limited.
There are many more companies yet to be approved by the Central Bank of Kenya, so this list will keep growing in the coming months and years.
