Kenya Power has announced a scheduled interruption of its prepaid token vending system. The temporary halt is part of a system-wide upgrade intended to improve the efficiency and reliability of electricity distribution across the country. The disruption will commence at 10:00 PM on Sunday, June 2nd, 2024, and is set to conclude by 10:00 PM on Monday, June 3rd, 2024.
Issued more than a week in advance, on Monday, May 27th, 2024, this early notification aims to give customers ample time to prepare for the upcoming service interruption. Kenya Power’s strategic planning underscores its commitment to keeping customers informed and minimizing any potential inconvenience.
During this 24-hour period, all avenues for purchasing prepaid electricity tokens, including Kenya Power offices, M-PESA Paybill number 888880, Airtel Money, and various banking channels, will be unavailable. This shutdown is critical for implementing technological enhancements that are expected to streamline token purchases and improve the overall customer experience.
To mitigate the impact of the outage, customers should purchase enough tokens to not only cover the duration of the upgrade but to consider the possibility of unforeseen delays. Customers are encouraged to plan for their electricity needs by topping up tokens that would last them through this period and possibly longer. This precautionary measure ensures that, should the upgrade take longer than anticipated, customers will not be left without power.
