Starlink Cuts Hardware Price to KES 29,999 in Kenya, Introduces KES 1,300 Monthly Data Plan

In a move set to transform internet accessibility in Kenya, Starlink has announced a significant reduction in the price of its internet kits. Starting today, the price of a Starlink Kit has been slashed to KES 29,999, effective until August 14. This reduction follows an initial price cut in April, which saw a surge in purchases from Kenyans across diverse backgrounds seeking reliable internet connections, particularly in underserved areas.

Gen-2 hardware kits have been readily available through Jumia Online and physically at Naivas supermarkets, contributing to rapid adoption among Kenyan consumers. The ease of acquisition through these popular outlets has played a pivotal role in the widespread uptake of the service.

Starlink recently introduced a new data plan priced at KES 1,300 per month, featuring a 50GB data cap – making it the most affordable option in the market compared to all local telco plans offering similar data allowances. This is a huge offering for many Kenyans who cannot justify the KES 6,500 monthly fee. It also means you can just be getting the hardware and using the data when necessary, as a backup plan. The good thing is users have reported being able to pay for Starlink with M-Pesa easily.

With the new reduction in hardware prices, more Kenyans will definitely be looking to jump on the deal. It remains uncertain whether the newly reduced price will be available at Jumia and Naivas. The response on social media to the price reduction has been overwhelmingly positive, yet some consumers are advocating for even lower prices, reflecting a strong demand for more accessible internet solutions from SpaceX.

You can order from the Starlink website directly, and will be required to immediately pay KES 6,500 deposit. Should the new pricing reflect through Jumia and Naivas, then we are going to see a very huge uptake. Remember, local Telcos like Safaricom have had instances where their routers cost KES 25,000, so seeing Starlink compete at such pricing is definitely going to heat things up.

As Starlink continues to adjust its pricing strategy, the impact on internet connectivity across Kenya is expected to be profound, offering more individuals and businesses the chance to connect to high-speed, reliable internet service. If you have the Starlink kit, let us know how it’s fairing for you!
