Jumia has announced that Starlink’s Satellite internet services are now available for purchase in Kenya through its online marketplace. In July 2023, Starlink commenced shipping to Kenyan customers. The post-launch phase saw users grappling with substantial costs for the residential kit – KES 89,000 for hardware, KES 3,100 for shipping, and a monthly subscription of KES 6,500. Starlink has been running Ads on Kenyan socials about the massive 55% discount running to mid-May. It’s not clear whether or not the Jumia pricing will last post mid-May.
Starlink utilises a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to provide global internet coverage, focusing on areas where internet connectivity is unreliable or completely absent.
