Safaricom 5G is Now Available Across All 47 Counties

Safaricom 5G has now been expanded across Kenya with over 1000 5G sites now active. This significant milestone makes it the largest 5G network provider in Kenya. The company says its 5G network has grown rapidly since its initial launch, and it now covers 14% of Kenya’s population, with 1,114 5G sites strategically placed across 102 towns.

This expansion has enabled more individuals, businesses, and households to access high-speed internet, further bridging the digital divide in the country. The company reports that the increasing adoption of 5G technology is evident with over 780,000 active 5G smartphones on its network, and the number continues to rise as more Kenyans embrace the benefits of superfast connectivity

“Safaricom remains committed to leading Kenya’s digital transformation through the provision of a worry-free, always-on, ubiquitous network. This enables access to critical information, services, and communication, thereby bridging the digital divide,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC. He emphasized that 5G technology would play a crucial role in catalyzing further innovations across various industries, as well as driving Kenya’s digital economy forward.

The company says its commitment to digital transformation is not just about expanding coverage but also about enabling new possibilities for innovation and efficiency across different sectors. Safaricom has been driving the digitization of enterprise solutions across IoT, cybersecurity, cloud services, and payments. This, the company adds, has led to optimized business operations and the scalability of new innovations.

The possibilities that next-generation technologies like 5G can unlock are vast, Safaricom says. The company envisions a future where 5G will enable immersive experiences in gaming, revolutionize healthcare through telemedicine, enhance logistics with smart warehousing, and transform agriculture with smart irrigation systems. According to Safaricom, these innovations will contribute significantly to building Kenya’s “Silicon Savanna” and positioning the country as a hub for technological advancement in Africa.

As Safaricom looks to the future, its ambition is clear: to become Africa’s leading purpose-led technology company by 2030. The company’s ongoing investments in 5G and other cutting-edge technologies are designed to ensure that Kenya remains at the forefront of digital innovation on the continent.

Tailored Safaricom 5G Services for Consumers and Businesses

To cater to the diverse needs of its customers, Safaricom has introduced a range of tailored 5G data bundles and Wi-Fi packages. The company says these are available under the ‘Go Monthly’ plan through the MySafaricom App, Safaricom’s website, and via USSD (*544# for bundles and *400# for Wi-Fi packages). These offerings are designed to provide ultra-fast internet speeds for both personal and business use, ensuring that customers can fully experience the benefits of 5G connectivity.

Safaricom notes that its 5G network not only supports individual consumers but also empowers over 11,000 enterprise customers who rely on the network for their daily operations. By providing reliable and superfast internet, Safaricom is enabling businesses to innovate, scale, and compete more effectively in the digital economy.

Over the years, the company says it has expanded its coverage to reach 97% of Kenya’s population with a mix of 2G, 3G, 4G, and now 5G technologies. Safaricom’s extensive fiber network, which has passed more than 560,000 homes and businesses, ensures that reliable connectivity and high-speed internet are available across the country.
