As an Android user of X (formerly Twitter), I have endured years of frustration. From endless buffering and timelines that refresh mid-scroll, to DMs and notifications that stubbornly refuse to load, and random freezes that end in a full-on crash. Itβs been a long-running pain point, especially when the iOS version runs far smoother.
Now, change is on the horizon.
Nikita Bier, head of product at X, has announced heβs assembling what he calls the Android Dream Team. And not just any dream team. In his own words:
βThe 1991β1998 Chicago Bulls of Android teamsβ¦ Books will be written about this teamβ¦ This app will be regarded with more reverence than the moon landing.βNikita promises the team will work with βthe most elite engineers of your careerβ to rebuild the X Android app from the ground up. Remote workers need not apply since this oneβs an in-office mission.

Elon Musk even dropped in with his stamp of approval (or bionic encouragement) in the form of a single emoji: π¦Ύ.

This announcement comes as X is also developing an X Lite app, a leaner, faster rewrite for low-end devices and slower networks. But now, itβs clear the flagship Android app isnβt being left behind; itβs getting the full rebuild treatment too. A full rewrite will take time, but for Android users, knowing a powerhouse team is tackling the project is already a reason to exhale.
Until the upgrade arrives, though, you might want to keep that force-stop button within reach.
