A growing number of Vitron TV users are reporting that the YouTube app for Android TV has suddenly stopped working on their smart TVs. When they launch the app, a message appears on-screen stating: “YouTube is not supported on this device.” The message also includes a QR code linking to Googleโs list of officially supported YouTube TV devices.
The issue appears to have started last week, coinciding with a recent YouTube app update for Android TV. Since then, hundreds of users have taken to Facebook, X, TikTok, and other social platforms to complain that the YouTube app is not working on their Vitron TVs.
While Google hasnโt issued an official statement yet, early signs point to compatibility issues between the latest YouTube for TV update and non-certified Android TV implementations, something common among low-cost smart TV brands like Vitron. Google maintains a list of supported devices, and Vitron does not appear anywhere on it. That suggests Vitronโs TVs may not be running a full version of Android TV but rather a modified or mobile variant that mimics the Android TV interface.
That could explain why certified devices such as Chromecast with Google TV, Sony Bravia TVs, or TCL Google TVs continue to run the latest version of YouTube without issue.
Vitronโs response and fix
The official Vitron TikTok account has acknowledged the issue, sharing a workaround that involves uninstalling the YouTube app and manually installing an APK version. However, the link provided points to an unofficial version of YouTube, raising questions about safety and whether Google is deliberately blocking access from uncertified hardware.

Vitron has also posted an update on TikTok saying:
"Weโve released a software upgrade to fix YouTube issues affecting some of our TVs. Please use the provided link to update your TV and restore normal YouTube functionality."Itโs not yet clear whether this firmware update resolves the issue for all affected users. But one of our readers says manually re-installing the APK indeed does the trick.
Itโs possible that Google is tightening its requirements for YouTube TV certification, or this could simply be a bug in the October 22 rollout. Either way, the sudden lockout highlights the challenges of using uncertified Android TV devices, especially when relying on core Google apps that can be revoked or restricted at any time.
For now, Vitron users can try the companyโs suggested fix.
If you own a non-Vitron smart TV and are experiencing the same problem, let us know in the comments โ itโs possible this issue affects other budget TV brands that use similar software setups.
