A little over a year after its last adjustment, Spotify is once again raising subscription prices for users in Kenya.
According to the official Spotify Kenya website, the streaming giant is rolling out a significant price hike across all its Premium tiers. This move comes alongside similar price adjustments confirmed for the US, Estonia, and Latvia, where the individual plan is jumping from $11.99 to $12.99.
In Kenya, the new pricing structure sees the Individual plan rise from KES 339 to KES 419 per month, an increase of roughly 24%.
The Student plan, previously KES 169, is now KES 209. The Duo plan (for two accounts) sees a steep jump from KES 439 to KES 549. Finally, the Family plan (up to 6 accounts) has increased from KES 549 to KES 669.
Here is the full breakdown of the new Spotify Kenya pricing for 2026 compared to the previous 2025 rates:
| Plan | Old Price (2025) | New Price (2026) | Difference |
| Student | KES 169 | KES 209 | +KES 40 |
| Individual | KES 339 | KES 419 | +KES 80 |
| Duo | KES 439 | KES 549 | +KES 110 |
| Family | KES 549 | KES 669 | +KES 120 |
Why the hike?
Spotify generally justifies these increases as necessary to “innovate” and “deliver value to fans and artists.” In a statement regarding the simultaneous US price hike, the company noted:
"Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists."
This is the second time in recent history that Kenyan users have faced a price adjustment, reflecting a global trend where streaming services are aggressively optimizing their average revenue per user (ARPU).
While the hikes are significant percentage-wise, Spotify continues to support local payment preferences, including one-time payments (often used via M-Pesa), which remains a critical feature for the Kenyan market.
Existing subscribers should expect an email notification regarding when the new rates will reflect on their next billing cycle.
