The iPhone 17 hasn’t even completed its first full year on the market, yet attention has already shifted to its successor after what could be one of the biggest Apple hardware leaks in recent memory surfaced online.
The timing couldn’t be more significant.
As we recently reported, Apple reclaimed the top spot as the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer during the first quarter of 2026, driven largely by exceptionally strong iPhone 17 sales. That momentum alone suggests the upcoming iPhone 18 lineup will attract enormous interest from consumers, developers, and investors alike.
Now, a massive cache of internal Apple-related documents allegedly stolen from Indian manufacturing partner Tata Electronics is giving the tech world an unusually detailed preview of what Apple could be planning next.
The alleged breach, said to contain around 630GB of confidential engineering files, has reportedly been circulating on parts of the dark web in recent days. Since then, screenshots, CAD drawings, engineering documents, CT scans and even videos have begun making their way onto social media before Apple reportedly started issuing DMCA takedown requests targeting some of the leaked material, including footage purportedly showing iPhone 18 Pro drop testing.

Whether every single document proves authentic remains impossible to verify independently. Apple, unsurprisingly, has remained silent, and leaked engineering material should always be treated cautiously until officially confirmed. Still, if even a portion of these files accurately reflects Apple’s development process, they offer the clearest glimpse yet into what may become the company’s biggest iPhone redesign in years.
Here are the biggest revelations.
1. A leaked drop-test video may have revealed Apple’s durability testing
Perhaps the most attention-grabbing leak isn’t a document at all. It’s a video.
The footage, which quickly spread across X and other social platforms before reportedly being hit with DMCA takedown notices, appears to show an iPhone 18 Pro Max prototype undergoing automated drop testing inside what looks like Apple’s durability testing equipment. On its own, the video doesn’t reveal any obvious design changes. But it does provide something rarely seen outside Apple’s laboratories: a glimpse into how future iPhones are stress-tested long before launch.
Interestingly, Apple’s reported effort to remove the footage has only fueled further discussion online, with many interpreting the takedowns as an indication that the material originated from genuine internal testing. Of course, DMCA actions don’t necessarily authenticate every aspect of leaked content, but they have historically added weight to major Apple leaks.
2. The iPhone 18 Pro could finally get a bold new Cherry Red finish
Apple has become increasingly adventurous with Pro colours over the past few years, introducing finishes like Deep Purple, Natural Titanium and Desert Titanium. According to the leaked engineering material, the company may be preparing another standout colour for 2026.
Several leaked images appear to show the iPhone 18 Pro in a striking Cherry Red finish, a darker, richer shade than the bright reds Apple has traditionally reserved for its (PRODUCT)RED devices.

If it reaches production, it would easily become one of the boldest colours ever offered on a Pro model.
Personally, this is one of the leaks that caught my attention immediately. Apple has often played it safe with Pro colours, favouring muted metallic finishes over vibrant options. A Cherry Red iPhone 18 Pro would certainly stand out in a lineup that’s traditionally dominated by greys, blacks and titanium-inspired tones.
3. Apple may finally be tackling one of the iPhone’s biggest weaknesses
Ask almost any power user what they’d like Apple to improve, and chances are heat management will feature somewhere near the top of the list. Whether you’re gaming, recording long 4K videos, editing photos or using increasingly demanding AI features, heat has become one of the biggest constraints on sustained smartphone performance.
According to the leaked Tata documents, Apple appears ready to address that problem with a significantly larger vapour chamber cooling system inside the iPhone 18 Pro. If accurate, this would represent one of the biggest internal cooling upgrades ever introduced to an iPhone.

Unlike traditional graphite sheets, vapour chambers spread heat across a much larger surface area, allowing processors to sustain peak performance for longer periods without aggressive thermal throttling. Android manufacturers have relied on vapour chamber cooling for years, particularly in gaming-focused devices.
Apple adopting a larger version could significantly improve sustained performance during gaming, video editing, camera recording, and AI workloads.
4. The A20 Pro may receive a major internal redesign
Another fascinating discovery isn’t visible from the outside at all. According to leaked motherboard diagrams, Apple may be redesigning how the A20 Pro chip itself is packaged. The documents suggest Apple is moving away from the dual-layer motherboard design used in previous generations. Instead, the A20 Pro is reportedly adopting Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) packaging.

In simpler terms, Apple appears to be relocating the LPDDR5X memory beside the processor rather than stacking it directly on top. That seemingly small engineering decision could have several important benefits:
- Better thermal dissipation
- Improved manufacturing efficiency
- More consistent sustained performance
- Additional internal space for other components
The leaked documents also reference 96-bit LPDDR5X memory and hint that Apple’s Neural Processing Unit (NPU) could receive another performance boost without dramatically increasing the processor’s physical size. Considering Apple’s growing investment in on-device AI, that would make perfect sense.
5. The smaller Dynamic Island may finally be happening
Rumours about a smaller Dynamic Island have circulated for well over a year. This latest leak may provide the strongest evidence yet. Among the leaked files are CT scan images that appear to show Apple’s infrared flood illuminator relocated to the side of the display assembly rather than sitting beneath the Dynamic Island itself. If that’s indeed Apple’s final design, it could allow the company to shrink the size of the Dynamic Island without sacrificing Face ID functionality.

For users, that means slightly more usable display space while preserving one of Apple’s signature interface features. This also lines up with several earlier supply chain reports suggesting Apple has been gradually miniaturising components used for Face ID.
6. Cherry Red wasn’t Apple’s only colour experiment
One of the more interesting discoveries from the leaked files suggests Apple was considering another finish altogether. Engineering images reportedly show a Burgundy version of the iPhone 18 Pro alongside the now widely discussed Cherry Red model. However, it’s likely that Burgundy may have been abandoned before production, with Cherry Red ultimately becoming the preferred direction.

If true, it serves as a reminder that Apple experiments with far more colours and prototypes than consumers ever get to see. Many designs never make it beyond internal testing.
Leaks aren’t always final products
As exciting as these discoveries are, it’s worth remembering that Apple prototypes countless designs throughout development. Colours change, components move, features get delayed, and some ideas disappear entirely before mass production begins. That’s why it’s important to treat every leak, no matter how convincing, as a snapshot of Apple’s development process rather than a confirmed specification sheet.
Still, taken together, these latest documents reinforce a growing narrative surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro. Instead of focusing solely on camera upgrades or a faster chip, Apple may be preparing a more fundamental internal redesign aimed at improving cooling, AI performance, durability and display efficiency. If even half of these leaks survive into the final product, the iPhone 18 Pro could end up being one of Apple’s most significant hardware upgrades in years.
And considering the remarkable sales momentum the iPhone 17 series has already generated, it’s easy to see why every new leak surrounding its successor is commanding so much attention.
