Tecno’s Spark Go 3 Pro brings IP69 water resistance to a 5,200mAh budget phone

Tecno has launched the Spark Go 3 Pro. The launch was through a statement from Tecno Mobile India that leans almost entirely on one selling point: an IP68/IP69 durability rating the company calls a first for its price segment.

IP68 and IP69 test different things. IP68 covers continuous submersion; Tecno’s own spec sheet puts that at 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. IP69 is tougher, and rarer. It tests resistance to high-pressure, high-temperature water jets sprayed from close range, a standard normally reserved for industrial or hygiene equipment rather than a phone this cheap. Tecno also claims drop resistance up to 1.5 metres.

The rest of the spec sheet:

  1. A 6.78-inch IPS LCD runs at 120Hz, still unusual at this price.
The battery grows to 5,200mAh from the 5,000mAh in the outgoing Spark Go 3, with 15W wired charging.
  2. RAM is 4GB, paired with 64GB or 128GB of storage and a microSD slot.
The chipset powering it is the Unisoc T7250, the same 12nm chip as the Spark Go 3.
  3. A 13MP main camera and an 8MP selfie shooter.
  4. Dual DTS speakers and an infrared blaster round things out.
Tecno launches the Spark Go 3 Pro in India with IP69 water resistance and a 120Hz screen. Kenya pricing unconfirmed.

Price

The phone costs Rs 15,999 for 4GB/64GB and Rs 16,999 for 4GB/128GB translating to about KES 22,000 and KES 23,000 respectively. Tecno Mobile India’s CEO, Arijeet Talapatra, frames the phone around people whose work does not happen in a controlled environment: delivery riders, farmers, commuters.

Tecno has not announced a launch date or a price here, though the standard Spark Go 3 already sells locally, priced from KES 11,500 to KES 18,000.
