Motorola has teased a wide foldable, and a leak puts it at 110mm tall closed, with a 6.92-inch screen and a mid-December launch. On 9th September, during Apple’s iPhone Duo launch, Motorola posted an eight-second video on X. Near the end, about 12 frames show the blacked-out silhouette of a foldable that opens as wide as it is tall. The caption never mentions a foldable. It ends “Just wait for our next move.” Motorola has not given a name, specs, price or launch date.
The specs come from a leak published on 28th September. It cites unnamed sources and shows no documents. We found no certification listing, benchmark result or second tipster, so treat every number below as unconfirmed until Motorola announces the phone. The leak calls the phone “Razr Flex” and says that is an internal name.
What a wide foldable is
Most book foldables, which open like a book, close into a tall, narrow phone and open into a nearly square screen. Motorola’s Razr Fold is 160.1mm tall and 73.6mm wide closed. A wide foldable closes into a short, squat block about the size of a passport and opens into a screen almost as wide as it is tall. We currently have 4 major wide foldables:
- Huawei’s Pura X Max,
- Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8,
- Xiaomi’s 18 Fold and
- Apple’s iPhone Duo, which goes on sale on 23rd October.
Motorola’s would be the fifth.
Why it is hard to build
A wide screen means a short phone, and a short phone has little room inside. The four announced wide foldables are 9.7mm (Fold8) to 11.3mm (iPhone Duo) thick closed and weigh 201g to 254g, against 9.9mm and 243g for Motorola’s tall Razr Fold.
Camera space is where the makers differ. The Fold8 has two rear cameras and no telephoto, the lens that zooms without losing detail. Apple lists the iPhone Duo’s 2x as an “optical-quality” mode from its 48MP main sensor, not a separate lens. Huawei and Xiaomi fit a 50MP periscope telephoto at 11.2mm and 10.68mm thick. The Razr Fold has a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom.
The hinge is another trade. The Fold8’s flatter hinge drops FlexMode, the half-open mode on Samsung’s other foldables, as Samsung’s own page says. The cover screen, the display on the outside when the phone is shut, is short and wide, so apps scroll more on it, and some, mostly games, do not scale well on the Fold8’s screens.
If the leak is right, buyers get the smallest closed wide foldable and give up thickness, battery and a telephoto against the Razr Fold.
What the leak says
Every value in the middle column comes from the same leak. The other two columns are each maker’s specs for comparison, except the Razr Fold’s weight, height, width and dust and water rating, which come from GSMArena.

Closed, the leaked phone would be 110mm tall, 8mm to 14mm shorter than the four announced wide foldables. It would also be the thickest, at 12.6mm: 1.3mm more than the iPhone Duo and 2.9mm more than the Fold8.
The smaller phone would also be 2.7mm thicker than the Razr Fold and hold less battery. The leak does not say why, or whether 12.6mm includes the camera bump.
The chip is where the leak contradicts itself. Its text says Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, clocked up to 3.8GHz, “the same chip that fuels the Motorola Razr Fold”. Its table says Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and other sites repeated the table. Qualcomm’s own figure for the 8 Gen 5 is 3.8GHz, and the Elite Gen 5 reaches 4.74GHz. We treat 8 Gen 5 as the likelier chip. It would be a step down from the Fold8’s, and the leak’s text says price is “quite probably” the reason.
The teaser and the leak disagree on shape too. The opened silhouette is about 1.1 times wider than tall, by our measurement of the frame. The leaked open size is 149 by 110mm, or 1.35 times. The frame is a hand-held still and may show a dummy unit, so we cannot say which is right.
We checked the leaked numbers against each other. A 6.92-inch screen at that resolution fits a 149 by 110mm body with bezels of about 3mm, and the weight and battery match the size. Nothing is physically impossible, though a careful fake could pass the same test.
Motorola showed the Razr Fold in January and made its first US sale on 21st May, so a later date than December is possible for actual sales. A certification listing would be the first independent check of the 5,000mAh battery claim.
