Facebook has a new logo that’s really boring

The logo represents the mother company. The App will keep it's own current branding/logo.

Facebook, the company that owns WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Apps, has announced their new company branding. They say the new, different company branding, is meant to clearly distinguish the company from the app.

Here’s the new logo (GIF).

The different color options will appear on different products

Some time back this year, the company – in a bid to show ownership – started including their name in their apps. That’s why on Instagram, in some sections, you nowadays see the “from FACEBOOK” statement. WhatsApp is yet to explicitly show this statement.

We believe, such places are where the new Facebook Logo will be appearing. Also, the company has said they’ll unveil a new company website.

Remember, including the apps mentioned in the first paragraph, Facebook owns Messenger, Oculus, Workplace, and Calibra. All these will for sure be in the near future showing off the company logo somewhere.

While this move by the company is them trying to really distinguish Facebook the App from Facebook the company, I wonder how it’ll be perceived by the billions of users of these different apps.

“This brand change is a way to better communicate our ownership structure to the people and businesses who use our services,” the company says in their official announcement.

Remember, very many people still don’t know Facebook owns these apps they use daily. Hopefully, this doesn’t change perception of these apps. What are your thoughts?
