Fuel Prices Reduce by KES 5 in January-February 2024 Review Diesel Subsidies Removed: Fuel Prices Surge by Up to KES 15

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced the reduction in fuel prices effective 15th October 2021 to 14th November 2021. This will see Super Petrol fuel prices in Nairobi decrease by KES 5.00 per litre while that of Kerosene decrease by KES 7.28 per litre. This is a relief as last month prices increased by KES 7.

EPRA says the new fuel prices are inclusive of the 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

The new rates come at a time when Kenyan MPs are calling for a review in the fuel pricing formula that would see fuel prices fall by a significant amount. Should the debate go on and those deliberations be made into law, we expect to see significant reduction in prices in the coming months.
