TECNO POVA 5G; Here’s TECNO’s First 5G Smartphone

TECNO is launching its first 5G smartphone – called POVA 5G – powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 900 Chipset. This is the same chipset that powers the OPPO Reno6 5G. It is good, and powerful, and efficient and supports a number of 5G bands.

What’s not adding up is why TECNO’s first 5G phone will be under the POVA series. One would expect it on their Phantom or Camon lineup as these are better known, and are the company’s premium series of devices. We first heard of the POVA lineup last year, and the device introduced then was a budget gaming phone costing below KES 20k.

Anyways, thanks to information from Tech Arena24 on Youtube, we now have information of the TECNO POVA 5G. The full specs are listed down below.

The POVA 5G features a huge 6.9-inch IPS LCD Display with support for up to 120Hz Refresh rate. This is a huge phone, and lucky enough, TECNO has a huge 6000mAh battery to support the demand. The battery fast charges at 18W.

The phone comes with Android 11 out of the box, and there’s 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There’s still no mention of the particular types of RAM and Storage used.

In terms of cameras, there’s a 50MP main lens at the back with two extra unspecified lenses. The front camera is expected to be 16MP. TECNO’s signature quad flash for the rear cameras, and dual flash for the front cameras should still be available.

There’s a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that acts as the power button. There’s USB Type-C and there are DTS tuned speakers.

Availability:

The POVA 5G will go on sale in select markets perhaps by the beginning of December 2021. We expect pricing to be around KES 30,000 which is very good as it will not only undercut many of the recent launches from different companies, it will also be one of the most affordable 5G phones anywhere.
