Tanzanian Star Zuchu is the latest Infinix Brand Ambassador. The musician will headline the new Infinix NOTE 12 VIP which is part of the new NOTE 12 Series. She joins Kenya’s Sauti Sol who are also Infinix’s brand ambassadors.
Infinix unveiled Sauti Sol on 2nd of June 2021. At the launch of the NOTE 12 VIP, they announced they’d renewed the deal. It seems Infinix’s approach is to have Brand Ambassador(s) per country. So Sauti Sol get to work with the brand in Kenya while Zuchu will be headlining them in Tanzania.
The same appears to be the case with itel who have Diamond Platnumz as the itel African ambassador while locally, King Kaka is the itel Kenyan ambassador.
The idea behind brand ambassadors is that they’re influential people – mostly musicians – who push the brand’s ideals and endorse the brand’s products. This is done so as to pull in more customers into believing and buying the brand’s products.
It seems Transsion has of late jumped into the idea with all their brands:
- Infinix has Sauti Sol and now Zuchu
- itel has Diamond Platnumz and King Kaka
- TECNO has Chris Evans (Captain America) and is set to unveil Otile Brown
But do these sort of endorsements work? Have you been drawn to buying something because of a musician’s endorsement?
I personally believe they are working very well for Transsion-owned companies. For example the Diamond Plantnumz endorsement of itel was very positively received. The Sauti Sol Infinix partnership has also really changed the perception of the brand by many people across the country. And I am sure both Zuchu’s and Otile Brown’s endorsement will pull in not only new customers, but a whole new outlook of both Infinix and TECNO respectively.
For established brands, the idea behind Brand Ambassadors may not really work as people already know and associate certain qualities to these brands. Maybe that’s why with endorsements like Nyashinski for Samsung and Nviiri The Storyteller for Nokia, the partnership didn’t entail billboards and headlining of devices as we see with Transsion brands.
