Everything new with TECNO’s Phantom X2 Pro which costs 83k

TECNO’s sub-brand, Phantom, recently launched in the Kenyan market the new Phantom X2 Series of smartphones which includes two devices:

  • Phantom X2 – KES 67,999
  • Phantom X2 Pro – KES 82,999

The company said the new devices mark their bold entrance into the high-end global smartphone market. The devices feature, according to the company, a host of ground breaking features and outstanding performance.

So, what’s good with the Phantom X2 Series?

  1. New Design
  2. New Cameras
  3. Powerful Processor

Design:

TECNO unveils Phantom X2 Series with HUGE rear cameras

TECNO has kept the design of the Phantom X, but now included a new look set of cameras at the back. We still have that unique unibody double-curved build and what TECNO calls a 3.5D lunar crater design. Customers have the option of three mysterious, space-inspired colours.

The series also now features an Eco-Friendly Edition which is a special edition pioneering environmentally friendly back cover, constructed by recycling materials recovered from the ocean. Over a complex, multiple-stage process, the waste materials are transformed into microfibers and then woven to form a strong, durable material which is used to create the cover.

In total, each Eco-Friendly Edition back cover contains 14.4% recycled material. Compared with virgin plastics, the use of recycled materials to manufacture the back covers reduces carbon emissions by approximately 38%, with each individual cover producing an estimated 2.4g fewer emissions on average. PHANTOM hopes its commitment to environmental protection will encourage more consumers worldwide to embrace sustainable lifestyles.

Cameras:

The camera design has sparked interesting conversations thanks to the odd choice of placement. There are a total of 4 lenses at the back.

The highlight of the four lenses is the portrait lens which TECNO is calling the “World’s First Retractable Portrait Lens”.

The company explains that while its retractable nature ensures the phone remains slim and light, the 65mm lens’ 2.5x optical zoom, large F1.49 aperture and shallow 18.9cm depth of field create a stunningly pure optical bokeh for breathtaking portraiture, as showcased in a series of portraits captured by professional photographer, Rankin, whose portfolio ranges from portraiture to documentary.

Processor & perfomance:

The Phantom X2 devices are powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 5G chip, the world’s first TSMC 4nm 5G mobile SoC. With an advanced octa-core CPU, the chip ensures powerful performance to enhance business, entertainment and everyday use. While the chip’s 7th Generation Imagiq 790 powerful ISP is capable of processing 9 billion pixels/second for impactful imaging, it also provides exceptional power efficiency and an incredibly smooth user experience, boasting an AnTuTu Benchmark score of over 1,000,000 points.

There’s up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage which the company says ensures users can play their favourite games and run heavy-duty apps simultaneously.

The battery is a 5160mAh cell which supports 45W flash charging.
