Xiaomi has today announced the launch of the Redmi A3 in the Kenyan market, introducing a device that positions itself as an appealing option for those in search of an entry-level smartphone that doesn’t compromise on aesthetics or functionality. The unveiling, which Xiaomi describes as a perfect surprise for the April Holiday season, signifies the company’s commitment to enhancing user experience at an accessible price point. Pricing starts from KES 11,599.
According to Xiaomi, the Redmi A3 is designed to cater to a broad spectrum of users with its design that marries form and function. The company says it takes pride in the device’s ability to blend a sophisticated look with practical features, making it an attractive proposition for budget-conscious consumers who do not wish to forgo elegance. The smartphone is offered in three colors: Midnight Black, Star Blue, and Forest Green, each with unique finishing touches that speak to individual tastes. The Midnight Black variant, for instance, mimics a starry night sky under bright light, while the Star Blue option boasts a rainbow-like sheen. The Forest Green model is noted for its smudge-resistant, matte, leather-textured back design, which underscores a sense of rationality and refinement.
At the heart of the Redmi A3’s appeal is its large, 6.71-inch HD+ display, which features a high refresh rate of up to 90Hz. Xiaomi claims that this specification ensures a silky smooth, immersive viewing experience that defies the expectations for its price category. Furthermore, the display is protected by Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 and benefits from DC dimming technology, which reduces blue light exposure and minimizes flicker, aiming to offer enhanced eye-care protection.
The device boasts what Xiaomi calls AI dual camera setup, including an 8MP main camera complemented by an auxiliary lens for capturing stunning portrait shots. A noteworthy inclusion is the film Camera feature, which allows users to apply filter effects in real-time before taking a photo, a function Xiaomi says was previously exclusive to higher-end Redmi Note devices. Additionally, the Redmi A3 features a 5MP front camera enhanced with a beautifier and a soft-light ring for improved selfies in low light conditions.
Xiaomi emphasizes the Redmi A3’s reliability and security, supporting both Face Unlock and Fingerprint Unlock through a responsive side-mounted sensor. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 10W USB Type-C charging port to fill up the non-removable 5000mAh battery.
Powering the Redmi A3 is the MediaTek Helio G36 processor, available in configurations of 3GB+64GB and 4GB+128GB. Xiaomi is also using extended memory technology, which can expand available RAM to up to 8GB using internal storage, ensuring smooth application performance. The phone also supports microSD cards of up to 1TB, providing ample storage options for users.
