Jumia, the leading e-commerce platform in Africa, announced the appointment of Vinod Goel as the new Regional CEO for East Africa. This strategic decision places Goel at the helm of Jumia’s operations in both Kenya and Uganda, signaling a significant leadership shift as the company aims to consolidate its growth efforts in the region.

Vinod Goel takes over from Charles Ballard, who previously managed Jumia’s Kenya operations. Goel’s appointment is part of Jumia’s broader strategy to strengthen leadership across its regional markets, a tactic that has proven successful in West Africa where the company has seen notable synergies among neighboring markets.

Before stepping into this role, Goel served as CEO of Jumia Uganda, where he is credited with achieving substantial top-line growth and improving profitability metrics. His earlier role in Jumia began in 2020 as Head of Global Fulfillment Operations, during which he significantly enhanced Jumia’s logistical capabilities across multiple markets.

Vinod’s career prior to Jumia includes significant stints in Strategy, Finance, and Supply Chain with the Lafarge Group, and early experience as a software engineer in India. He holds a dual MBA degree from MDI Gurgaon and ESCP Europe in London, coupled with a B.S. in Engineering.

Upon his appointment, Goel expressed his commitment to spearheading Jumia’s growth in Kenya and Uganda, focusing on innovation, affordability, and convenience in online shopping. He also emphasized the importance of fostering brand partnerships to help local and global brands expand across the African continent.
