Airtel Launches “GB kwa GB” Free Data Campaign to Promote Inclusion

Airtel Kenya has unveiled a new initiative, the “GB kwa GB” campaign, designed to enhance digital inclusion by offering free data to customers upgrading their phones. This campaign targets both new customers joining Airtel with a smartphone and existing Airtel customers transitioning from feature phones to smartphones.

Airtel Kenya says it has been at the forefront of technological advancements, evidenced by its previous initiatives like the ‘Internet Mashinani’ program, which provided subsidized 4G home broadband devices and pocket Mi-Fi for remote areas. The company also introduced eSIM, VoLTE technology, and a 5G network, alongside the largest network expansion in its history and the Home Unlimited 5G data packages.

Who is eligible for Airtel GB kwa GB Campaign:

The GB kwa GB campaign features free 1GB data every week for six months, provided customers top up a minimum of Ksh 50 weekly. The free 1GB data is valid for three days. Eligible customers include:

  • New smartphone users joining the Airtel network
  • Existing customers upgrading from feature phones to smartphones
  • Customers switching from 3G devices to 4G or 5G smartphones

To check eligibility, customers can dial *544*8# on their Airtel line.

Unlike previous offers tied to specific handset models, the GB kwa GB campaign is accessible to all smartphone models, giving customers the freedom to choose their preferred device.

In a recent update, Airtel Kenya reported the launch of 480 new sites since the beginning of the year, with an additional 148 sites added in the last month, highlighting its commitment to providing fast, reliable, and affordable connectivity across the country.

Ashish Malhotra, Managing Director of Airtel Kenya, emphasized the company’s commitment to digital inclusion: “The GB kwa GB campaign reflects our commitment to empowering more Kenyans to be a part of the growing digital economy. We are committed to supporting the digital inclusion agenda, not only through investing in infrastructure but also by making it worthwhile for our customers to acquire smartphones and experience the convenience of the digital age. By continuously providing affordable data offerings, Airtel aims to bridge the digital divide and provide unparalleled access to digital opportunities.”

Airtel’s GB kwa GB campaign aims to reduce the financial barrier to smartphone adoption and encourage more Kenyans to enjoy its enhanced network services, thereby accelerating the country’s digital transition.
