Rescue.co Launches Standalone Roadside Emergency Service for Kenyan Drivers

Rescue.co has launched a dedicated roadside assistance product for Kenyan motorists and businesses, expanding its emergency response network beyond medical emergencies.

The new service, calledΒ Roadside by rescue.co, offers immediate support across the country for common car-related emergencies like breakdowns, flat tires, dead batteries, and even road accidents.

What the Service Offers

ForΒ KES 8,888 per yearΒ (inclusive of VAT) per vehicle, members get access to:

  • Up toΒ 4 free roadside rescues annuallyΒ (or 600km in total towing distance)
  • Towing, vehicle recovery,Β jump-starts, tire changes,Β fuel delivery
  • EmergencyΒ key retrieval,Β mobile security response, andΒ ambulance dispatch
  • Nationwide coverage, includingΒ urban and remote rural roads

The service is available toΒ individual drivers, families, corporate fleets, ride-hailing apps, andΒ insurance partners. It can be purchased online viaΒ roadside.rescue.co.

Built on the Flare Emergency Platform

Rescue.co’s new product is powered by its award-winningΒ Flare technology platform, which coordinates more thanΒ 1,000 emergency responders, including:

  • Over 200 roadside specialists
  • 800+ ambulances nationwide

This digital-first infrastructure, which was previously used for medical emergencies, now helps mobilize Kenya’s most distributed roadside assistance network.

Why This Matters Now

Kenya has one of the highest road incident rates in the region. According toΒ NTSA, overΒ 4,000 road deathsΒ andΒ 18,000 accidentsΒ were recorded in 2023 alone.

Most drivers in the country are left to rely onΒ slow insurance approvals, informal towing providers, or friends and family during emergenciesβ€”especially in remote areas.

With this launch, Rescue.co is betting thatΒ roadside assistance should be treated like health insuranceβ€”essential, fast, and proactive.

From Health Emergencies to Road Safety

Since 2018, Rescue.co has provided some form of roadside help as part of its emergency medical services. The decision to launch Roadside as a standalone product reflects growing demand forΒ vehicle-focused rescue support.

The company already works with major players likeΒ Glovo, Bolt, ICEA Lion, and JW Seagon, and is targeting more insurers, e-commerce companies, and logistics firms to integrate the service intoΒ fleet safety offerings.

A Shift in How Kenyans Think About Vehicle Safety

While many insurance providers focus on compensationΒ afterΒ an accident, Rescue.co’s approach focuses onΒ instant responseΒ when something goes wrong. There’s no need for policy number verification or insurer pre-approvalβ€”once subscribed, assistance is dispatched immediately.

According toΒ Philip Fricke, Director for Road Rescue, the goal is to make sure no one is left stranded:

β€œUnderstanding the critical importance of mobility and vehicle safety to Kenyans, we've created Roadside by rescue.co to ensure drivers have immediate, professional help whenever and wherever they need it.”
