
OPPO’s senior vice president and chief product officer Pete Lau said today, 15 September, that the Find X10 Pro Max will launch globally with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro and a piece of OPPO software he called the Laminar Flow Engine. MediaTek just announced the chip today morning. Lau’s post promises “exceptional performance and efficiency”. It gives no prices, no dates and no benchmark numbers.
What 2nm actually changed
The Dimensity 9600 Pro is MediaTek’s top smartphone processor, and it is the first one the company has built on TSMC’s 2nm manufacturing process. TSMC is the Taiwanese contract chipmaker that builds silicon for MediaTek, Apple and Qualcomm.
“2nm” is a generation label, not a measurement of anything on the chip. What it names is a change in the shape of the transistor, the microscopic switch that a processor is made of by the tens of billions. Flagship phone chips have used FinFET transistors for a decade, where the gate that switches the current on and off touches the channel on three sides. At 2nm, TSMC moved to a nanosheet transistor, where the gate wraps the channel on all four. That is harder to manufacture, because the channel now has to be built as a stack of separate horizontal sheets with gate material deposited in the gaps between them. The payoff is that a fully wrapped gate holds the current more tightly and leaks less of it when the switch is meant to be off, and leakage is what turns into heat and flat batteries.
TSMC puts the gain at 10 to 15% more performance for the same power, or 25 to 30% less power for the same performance, against its 3nm process. It started building 2nm chips in volume in the last quarter of 2025.
MediaTek spent that budget on an unusual processor layout. The Dimensity 9600 Pro has eight cores and none of them is a small efficiency core: two Arm C2-Ultra cores at 4.55GHz, three C2-Pro cores at 4.35GHz and three more C2-Pro cores at 3.10GHz, with 34.5MB of cache and more than 33 billion transistors. It’s also the first phone chip to take LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage. Those are the newest versions of the two standards that decide how fast a phone moves data between what it’s holding in memory and what’s saved on the device.
The company’s own comparisons against last year’s Dimensity 9500 are 17% higher single-core performance, 15% higher multi-core, and 61% less power at matched multi-core peak. It claims the graphics processor is 27% faster at peak while using 24% less power, and that the two neural processing units, the parts that run AI models on the phone itself, prepare a large language model’s input 51% faster and generate 55% more text per watt. Those are vendor figures measured on MediaTek’s own reference hardware, not on a Find X10.
The 61% is the figure to watch. A phone that spends less power to hit the same speed runs cooler, and a cooler phone holds its speed for longer instead of throttling ten minutes into a game or halfway through a 4K video. We’ll know whether OPPO’s version delivers when we test one.
The Laminar Flow Engine
OPPO says the Laminar Flow Engine was built jointly with MediaTek and that it reworks how the phone draws what is on screen, tying that work to how the system decides which app gets processing time. The stated result is faster app launches and scrolling that holds its frame rate. OPPO hasn’t published a technical breakdown, and so far the name is doing more work than the explanation.
The OPPO Find X9, which went on sale in Kenya in November 2025 at KES 139,999, shipped with the Dimensity 9500 and an OPPO layer called the Trinity Engine.
When you can buy one
The Find X10 series launches in China on 22 September in three models, per OPPO’s own store listings.
These are the devices to expect:
- the Find X10 E,
- the Find X10 and
- the Find X10 Pro Max.
There is no Find X10 Pro this year. The Pro Max comes in Moon White, Light Titanium and Warm Orange, from 12GB of RAM with 256GB of storage up to 16GB with 1TB.
OPPO has confirmed an 8,000mAh battery and three 200-megapixel rear cameras, which would make it the first phone to carry three sensors at that resolution. It runs ColorOS 17, OPPO’s Android 17 skin. An unofficial spec listing adds a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED display, 80W wired charging and 50W wireless, all of it unconfirmed until next Tuesday.
Kenya is the open question. OPPO Kenya sold the Find X8 in December 2024 and the Find X9 in November 2025, both at KES 139,999, and both times it brought the base model rather than the Pro. The Find X9 Ultra never came here at all. On the last two years’ pattern, a Kenyan launch would land in November at around KES 140,000. OPPO Kenya hasn’t said anything about the Find X10 yet.
