The Airtel Africa Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Airtel Africa plc, today unveiled its Tech For Her program—an intensive, five-week online initiative targeting young women in Zambia, Uganda, and Kenya. Delivered in partnership with Tertiary DNS, the program equips participants with high-demand digital skills—including Linux administration, cybersecurity, and data analytics—to broaden their opportunities in tech globally.
Program Highlights
- Format: Over 100 hours of training delivered via a flexible model—weekend sessions for working professionals and weekday classes for non-working participants.
- Eligibility: Candidates must have basic digital literacy and a National Diploma (or equivalent) in Science, Technology, or higher.
- Post‑training support: Graduates receive 12 months of continuous skill development; participants scoring 90% or above qualify for internships at Airtel Africa and structured mentorship from industry leaders.
Commitment to Gender Equity & Inclusion
- Chair, Dr Segun Ogunsanya stressed that Africa’s digital transformation hinges on gender equity. The program reserves 30% of slots for women from rural and underserved communities, and 40% for applicants from low-income households.
- UNESCO statistics highlight that women comprise only 30% of tech professionals in Sub‑Saharan Africa and account for just 2–8% in software development roles.
- Committee member Annika Poutiainen emphasized the Foundation’s ambition to nurture a pipeline of female tech leaders who will drive innovation both within Africa and beyond.
