Spotify is currently investigating a widespread issue that’s causing its Android app to freeze or crash when connected to certain Wi-Fi networks.
Reports on Spotify’s official community forums show that dozens of users, primarily those with Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones, have been dealing with the problem for the past two weeks. The issue leaves the app largely unusable, with freezes, lag, and random crashes.
In an official acknowledgment, Spotify said:
"We’ve received reports from Android users (mainly Samsung and Google Pixel) experiencing issues where the Spotify app becomes unresponsive, freezes, or crashes when connected to certain Wi-Fi networks. The issue doesn’t occur while using mobile data."
The company adds that its teams are “currently looking into this,” though there’s no estimated timeline for a fix.

As noted in the acknowledgment, the issue doesn’t seem to affect everyone. For instance, on my Chromecast with Google TV running Android 14, Spotify runs without hiccups, backing up Spotify’s note that this problem isn’t universal.
Some users believe the problem could be tied to Chromecast-ready devices or certain network configurations, which would explain why it only occurs over Wi-Fi and not mobile data. But for now, Spotify hasn’t offered a workaround beyond switching to mobile data or offline listening. But given the scale of reports, a fix is likely in the works.
