It appears Airtel Kenya has been busy tweaking its Premier postpaid plans in the background, making a huge move to sweeten the deal for its high-value subscribers.
When Airtel first unveiled Premier back in 2023, the product was positioned as a premium postpaid offering targeting individuals, startups, SMEs, and corporates. The plans were split into three categories namely Bonga Zaidi, Browse Ukibonga, and Browse Zaidi, catering to heavy callers, balanced users, and data-heavy users respectively. Airtel highlighted perks such as free Airtel-to-Airtel calls after using up allocated minutes and the rollover of unused resources upon renewal.
While we last checked in on Airtel Premier with our review back in August 2024, it seems the telco has since quietly rolled out significant changes to its ‘Chaguo Langu’ plans. We don’t know when exactly these changes took effect, but some users had the now-defunct KES 999 plan as recent as August 2025 (see screenshot below). The good news? You’re getting substantially more data and minutes than what was on offer at launch in April 2023.

Here’s a breakdown of what Airtel has changed with the Premier postpaid plans.
Massive value boost across the board
The headline change is the sheer value increase across the primary existing price tiers (KES 1,499, KES 1,999, and KES 2,999). Airtel is now offering dramatically higher allowances for both minutes and data, often doubling the talk time and adding substantial gigabytes to the bundles.
At launch, the entry-level plan started at KES 999, offering 5GB of data and 600 minutes under Bonga Zaidi. The most expensive plan went up to KES 4,999, offering up to 125GB of data and 3,000 minutes. However, Airtel’s latest lineup paints a different picture. The company now lists four tiers starting from KES 499 and scaling up to KES 2,999, still under the same three plan categories.
Here’s a look at the data and minute changes across the available plans:
| Price (KES) | Plan | Initial (Apr 2023) | Current (Nov 2025) | Change |
| 499 | Bonga Zaidi | New Plan | 500 MINS, 2GB | N/A |
| Browse Ukibonga | New Plan | 300 MINS, 4GB | N/A | |
| Browse Zaidi | New Plan | 200 MINS, 6GB | N/A | |

| Browse Ukibonga | 600 MINS, 20GB | 1,200 MINS, 32GB | +600 MINS, +12GB | |
| Browse Zaidi | 400 MINS, 25GB | 800 MINS, 40GB | +400 MINS, +15GB | |
| 1,999 | Bonga Zaidi | 1,000 MINS, 25GB | 2,000 MINS, 40GB | +1,000 MINS, +15GB |

| 2,999 | Bonga Zaidi | 1,500 MINS, 45GB | 3,000 MINS, 72GB | +1,500 MINS, +27GB |
| Browse Ukibonga | 1,200 MINS, 60GB | 2,400 MINS, 96GB | +1,200 MINS, +36GB | |
| Browse Zaidi | 900 MINS, 75GB | 1,800 MINS, 120GB | +900 MINS, +45GB |
Notably, Airtel has dropped the KES 999 and KES 4,999 options, and while the entry-level plan is now cheaper, the higher-end packages have slightly different data and minute allocations. The telco has also clarified that the allocated minutes are now split equally between on-net and all-net calls, something that wasn’t explicitly stated before.
Also unchanged and still a point of friction for many users is the requirement to visit an Airtel shop to subscribe or terminate an Airtel Premier plan. This limitation was previously highlighted in our review, where the in-store requirement was one of the more inconvenient parts of the otherwise appealing service.
Airtel has not shared any official statement or press release regarding these revisions, nor when they took effect. But the quiet adjustments suggest the company may be refining its postpaid strategy to better appeal to a broader range of users, possibly in response to market feedback or evolving data consumption patterns.
For now, interested customers can still sign up by filling in the form here or visiting any Airtel center nationwide and can find plan details on Airtel Kenya’s official website.
