It has been less than two weeks since Safaricom launched the revamped My OneApp on April 2nd, but the telco’s development team is already pushing out updates at breakneck speed.
The app originally debuted as version 5.1.0. Less than a week later, around April 7th and 8th, it picked up a quick update to v5.1.1. Now, as of this writing, Android users are being greeted by yet another patch on the Google Play Store, bringing the app up to version 5.1.2.
Both of these subsequent updates weighed in at a relatively hefty 60MB. However, in typical Safaricom fashion, there is absolutely no mention of what these updates actually bring to the table. The changelogs are entirely missing in action.
Users are left playing a guessing game of what the updates might have fixed or, in some unfortunate cases, what they might have broken. Given how buggy and frustrating the recent initial rollout was for a large chunk of the user base even forcing many to roll back, you really can’t blame anyone for leaning toward skepticism.
If you have been pulling your hair out over crashes, infinite loading screens, or broken features on your Android device, this is your cue. Head over to the Google Play Store and hit that update button. Version 5.1.2 is likely a hotfix designed to patch up the myriad of teething problems users have been facing. While we can’t guarantee a flawless experience, it potentially addresses the worst of the launch bugs.
For iOS users rocking an iPhone, you are unfortunately stuck in the waiting room. Over on the Apple App Store, the My OneApp is still sitting on the original launch version (v5.1.0), with no sign of the two newer updates.
If you are facing issues on iOS, you will just have to stay patient for a little while longer. The delay is likely due to Apple’s notoriously strict App Store review process, so it shouldn’t be too long before a corresponding stability update drops for your devices.
Have you downloaded the v5.1.2 update? Let us know if it fixed your app issues or if you are still experiencing the same old Safaricom app headaches!
