Safaricom appears to be taking the next big step in its app shake-up, and this one is hard to miss.
Two months after launching My OneApp to replace the M-PESA app and MySafaricom app, Safaricom is now actively nudging MySafaricom app users to move over to the new platform. I first noticed it through a notification on the MySafaricom app itself, which opened My OneApp when tapped. If the app is not installed, the prompt redirects users to the Play Store or App Store.

The push does not stop there. Inside MySafaricom app, Safaricom has also placed banners on both the Home and Discover tabs encouraging users to switch to My OneApp. In other words, the company is no longer just updating the app in the background and hoping people notice. It is now openly asking them to move.
This is an important shift because the MySafaricom app had remained available separately even after My OneApp replaced the M-PESA app. For a while, that left some room for uncertainty about whether Safaricom would keep both apps running long term. These new prompts suggest that the old app may finally be on its way out.

The timing also makes sense. Safaricom has spent the last few weeks ironing out bugs and expanding access to My OneApp, including a recent fix that allowed users on rival networks, Wi-Fi, and other data providers to access the app. That removed one of the biggest frustrations users had with the rollout.

From what I am seeing, Safaricom now seems confident enough to start steering users toward a full migration. The company has not publicly announced a shutdown date for MySafaricom app yet, but the signs are getting louder by the day.
For users, the message is simple: My OneApp is no longer just the new app. It is becoming the app Safaricom wants everyone to use.
