Samsung Launches Health Assistant, an AI Chatbot That Reads Your Health Data

Samsung has started rolling out Health Assistant, an AI-powered assistant built into the Samsung Health app. The assistant reads your health data and answers questions about it in plain language. It launched in beta on 21 July 2026, for eligible users in the United States first.

Health Assistant connects data across what Samsung calls its five wellness pillars: sleep, activity, nutrition, mindfulness, and vitals. Instead of scrolling through separate charts, you ask the assistant questions. It spots patterns across your data and gives recommendations that Samsung says are validated by physicians and certified health coaches. It can explain your Energy Score, the daily readiness number Samsung Health generates from your sleep, activity, and sleeping heart rate.

“Our new Health Assistant advances Samsung’s vision for Connected Care by giving users a deeper understanding of their mind and body through daily health monitoring and increasing opportunities for early detection,” said Dr Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of the Digital Health Team at Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business.

One boundary is firm. Samsung states the assistant will not give medical advice, and will not give diagnostic or treatment recommendations. It is a wellness coach, not a doctor.

What you need to run it

You do not need a Samsung phone. Health Assistant works on Android phones running Android 11 or above, with Samsung Health version 6.27 or above and a Samsung Account. It pulls richer data if you wear a Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring. Samsung says future updates will add behaviour change coaching and weight management features, plus deeper personalisation through its Personal Data Engine, which factors in your schedule and preferences.

Samsung first tested this chatbot quietly. It appeared in a Samsung Health beta in September 2025 under a “Health Assist” section, where testers found it could answer questions about activity, sleep, nutrition, and stress. Monday’s announcement makes it official.

The Kenya question

Here is the part that matters for readers at home: the beta is limited to the United States. Samsung has not announced availability for Kenya or any African market, and its standard disclaimer says the service may vary by country, region, and language. Samsung typically expands health features in phases, and some, like ECG readings on Galaxy Watches, took years to reach more markets after US launch. Treat this as a preview of where Samsung Health is going, not something to look for in the app today.

The timing is not accidental. Samsung holds its Galaxy Unpacked event on 22 July, where it is expected to launch new Galaxy Watches. Samsung has already teased “a new AI-powered health companion on your wrist” for that event. Health Assistant launching a day before suggests the new watches will lean heavily on it. Everyone is building a health chatbot

Samsung is joining a race, not starting one. Whoop launched its OpenAI-powered Whoop Coach back in September 2023. Google went further this year: its Gemini-powered Personal Health Coach for Fitbit and Pixel Watch users launched in May 2026 at $9.99 a month under Google Health Premium. Apple, meanwhile, has reportedly scaled back its own AI health coach plans, according to Bloomberg.

That comparison raises a question Samsung has not answered: price. The company has not said whether Health Assistant will stay free or become part of a paid tier. Google charging $9.99 a month for its equivalent shows where the industry may be heading. Samsung has also been strengthening the clinical side of its health business, including its acquisition of US digital health platform Xealth, which connects wellness data with hospitals and care providers.
