For a couple of months now, Safaricom Home Fibre customers have been on faster speeds than they originally signed up for. Safaricom raised the speed on every tier on 29 April 2026 and left the prices alone. A Bronze user that used to get 15 Mbps is now getting 40 Mbps for the same KES 2,999.
At the end of July, Safaricom announced Pata More, a campaign to push the upgrade. Two things that come with Pata More on Home Fibre:
- Family Share, which lets one fibre bill carry mobile data or minutes for up to five people, and
- SecureNet, a network-level filter for the kids’ devices.
The Pata More campaign in general covers upgrades to things Kenyans already pay for, from M-PESA fees to data bundles to home internet. For Home Fibre, the numbers below are what “more” amounts to.
Home Fibre speeds now 2.5x faster
We talked about the new speeds when they arived. Then Safaricom also announced Fibre Lite and WiFi Bamba tiers. But those sit below Bronze. Here’s a table comparing old vs new speeds.

Megabits per second may not seem like an important detail until you have a whole household trying to access resources. A 4K Netflix stream wants about 15 Mbps on its own. On the old Bronze, that was the whole speed you’re paying for. If one person was watching in 4K, everyone else’s device was fighting. At 40 Mbps the same subscription can carry two 4K streams, a Google Meet call and someone scrolling TikTok, with space for even more devices.
Silver at 60 Mbps is the plan for a house with a heavier user because downloads are where 30 Mbps used to hurt. Gold went from 80 to 150 Mbps, and that one matters if anyone in the house uploads for a living; I pay for the Gold plan to be able to upload our 4K exports without any worries. Diamond and Platinum were already at 500 Mbps and 1 Gbps and did not move.
Every plan has a fair-usage cap: 1.5 TB a month on Bronze, 2 TB on Silver, 5 TB on Gold, 7 TB on Diamond and Platinum. Reaching 1.5 TB requires you to steram over seven hours of 4K a day, every day, so most homes will never reach the cap.
Family Share
Home Fibre is now revamped to better service family households. A home has multiple users, who leave and come in at different times of the day. When outside the house, users need access to internet. For a while that has meant buying a different plan. That now changes.
You get to keep your fibre plan, but add a small fixed monthly amount to top up. With that top up, you get extra mobile data, or voice minutes. It’s your choice. And you can allocate that to up to 5 different Safaricom phone numbers. Wherever they may be these 5 people can now enjoy data and minutes on their own phone numbers as part of your Home Fibre monthly plan.
The best offer is on Bronze. You pay KES 3,749 a month for the 40 Mbps line. You also get to choose between 14 GB of mobile data, or 750 minutes, to spread across five numbers. That is KES 2,999 for the normal fibre speeds, and an extra KES 750 for the sharing pot.

The shared resources last 30 days and do not roll over. For a household already spending money on bundles and minutes, the extra payment isn’t bad. If you were to pay for each of the 4 relatives for minutes or data, even KES 250 each becomes KES 1,000 a month on top of the fibre. Here, you make one payment and you’re good to go, now just sharing.
A quieter benefit: if the fibre goes down, the phones on the sharing pot still have their own data.

Everything, from checking whether your building is covered to adding Family Share to a line you already have, happens in My OneApp, the app that replaced the M-PESA and MySafaricom apps in April.

A couple or a small family that streams and works from home is well served by Bronze, which at 40 Mbps is now faster than the old Silver and, at KES 3,749 with Family Share, covers the relatives’ bundles too. A house with a gamer or three heavy streamers wants Silver. Gold is for anyone who uploads. Diamond and Platinum are for people who already know they need them.
