Samsung is taking its Connected Living Experience to Sarit Mall in Nairobi from 2 to 4 October 2026. It is the third and final leg of a roadshow that opened at the Junction Mall from 28 to 30 August and ran at The Galleria Mall from 4 to 6 September. The stand is a mock home cut into three rooms: a living room, a kitchen and a laundry room. The idea is to show Galaxy phones, Samsung TVs and Samsung appliances working as one set of devices instead of sitting on a shop floor as separate boxes.
What SmartThings is
SmartThings is Samsung’s smart home app and the platform behind it. You install it on an Android phone or an iPhone, sign in with a Samsung account, and it becomes the one place where every connected device in the house is registered and controlled. It had more than 430 million users as of December 2025, a number Cheolgi Kim gave at CES 2026. Kim is executive vice president and head of Samsung’s Digital Appliances division.
A platform like this also needs a hub. That is the piece of hardware that talks to devices which do not use Wi-Fi, such as Zigbee bulbs or Thread sensors. Samsung builds a hub into its TVs, so you do not buy a separate box. Which TVs qualify depends on where you look. Samsung’s Africa listing says every set from the Q60 series up released after 2022 has a built-in SmartThings Hub supporting Matter, Thread and Zigbee. Its current smart home page is stricter about the newest range. There, Zigbee and Thread sit on the S95H and above, and the M80H and up need a separate dongle. Matter is the cross-brand standard, which is what lets a lock or bulb from another manufacturer appear in the same app.
The features you will see on the floor
3D Map View draws your home as a floor plan inside the app, so devices appear where they physically sit rather than in a list.
Quick Remote puts appliance controls on your phone screen when you walk up to the appliance, without opening the app first. It only runs on Samsung Galaxy phones on Android, so an iPhone will not do it. The appliance has to be a 2024 model or newer, SmartThings has to be version 1.8.13 or later, and Bluetooth has to be on. On air conditioners it reaches about 10 metres.
Laundry Recipe is the app choosing the wash for you. You tell it what is in the load, the colour and how dirty it is, and it sends a cycle and temperature straight to the machine. AI Wash does the physical version of the same job, weighing the load and reading soil level and softness, then dispensing the water and detergent to match.
Diagnostics run under the name HomeCare Wizard. It sends a weekly or monthly report on how the machine has been running, what maintenance it needs and roughly what it has used.
What the energy claims are based on
AI Energy Mode is the part Samsung pushes hardest. On washers Samsung claims up to 70% less energy. That figure comes from internal testing on one machine, the WW11BB944AGB, which drew 0.539 kWh without the mode and 0.145 kWh with it. It only applies between 20 and 40 degrees. The saving is mostly the machine washing cool instead of hot, so if you already wash cold, most of that 70% is already yours.
The tracking side is less dramatic and more useful. SmartThings Energy covers around 40 Samsung appliances and reports daily, weekly and monthly consumption per device, with a claimed cut of up to 23% on the Bespoke dishwasher. For a Kenyan household on prepaid tokens, the useful part is watching which appliance eats the units before the meter runs out.
Samsung has not named the specific models going onto the Sarit floor and has not given Kenyan prices for any of them. It also has not published offers for this leg. At the Junction Mall opening the discounts came through the retailers rather than Samsung directly: up to 60% off selected appliances at Azone Outlet, up to 25% at Carrefour, and up to 10% off mobile purchases at Quick Plug. Whether Sarit repeats that is still open.
