Samsung starts rolling out Android 17 for Galaxy S24, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6

Samsung began sending the stable Android 17 update to the Galaxy S24 series, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and the Galaxy Z Flip6 on 6th October 2026. It is the third wave of the rollout. The Galaxy S26 went first, and the Galaxy S25, Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 followed on 28th September.

Android 17 is Google’s latest version of Android. Samsung puts its own software on top of it, called One UI, and this release is One UI 9. A phone running One UI 9 is running Android 17.

What is rolling out, and where

For now the update is only in South Korea, which is where Samsung starts every wave. The Korean build for the Galaxy S24 series is S92xNKSUGEZIF, and the foldables carry a build ending in EZIH. Both include the 5th September 2026 security patch, which is Google’s monthly set of fixes for security holes.

The size of the download depends on what is already on your phone. People who tested the beta already have most of the new software installed, so they get about 500 MB on the S24 and about 408 MB on the foldables. Everyone else downloads the whole thing, about 3.8 GB on the S24 and about 3.5 GB on the foldables.

The update covers the S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, according to the firmware details.

What you get

One UI 9 brings the same changes that reached newer Galaxy phones: more Galaxy AI features, a Quick Panel (the pull-down shortcut menu) you can rearrange more freely, privacy and security changes, Samsung Health upgrades and tweaks across Samsung’s own apps. The S25 update added a blue indicator showing which apps are using your location and My FanCam, which crops a video to follow the person you pick. We have not confirmed that every feature is on every S24 and foldable model, and Samsung says some depend on region and a Samsung account.

When it reaches Kenya

Samsung has not given dates for any market outside Korea. The only guide is the last wave. The Galaxy S26 update reached Kenya about 15 days after it started in Korea on 16th September. If the S24 and the foldables follow the same pattern, the update would arrive in Kenya around the third week of October. That is our estimate from one earlier wave.

To check, open Settings, then Software update, then Check for updates. Rollouts are staged, so a friend with the same phone may get it days before you do.
