Nokia has today launched two new phones for the Kenyan market. These are low-end budget phones – which the company believes will compete with devices around this price point. The two new phones are:
- Nokia C1 – KES. 5,999
- Nokia 2.3 – KES. 12,300
The Nokia 2.3 features a 6.2 inch HD display with a 720p resolution. It is the first device in Nokia 2 series to feature a dual camera setup. Nokia says they believe the 4000mAh battery will last long enough for every day usage. There’s no fingerprint scanner, but Nokia is touting the Face Unlock as a feature that could be trusted – won’t unlock even when sleeping.
There’s now scene detection with the cameras. HMD claims the camera will be able to recommend a good picture after taking 15 images pre-shoot, and 15 pictures post shoot. They say it all happens in one second. But I will have to test that out to believe. Given this device runs on the Helio A22 chip.
The 2.3 comes running Android 9. Nokia promised Android 10 will be available soon.
I wish they launched the device with Android 10 out of the box. That would have been a noteworthy thing – given it’d be I believe the first device in this market to launch with Android 10 out of the box, and it’d also be the cheapest device with Android 10 right now. But given Nokia’s track record with updates, and their promise to update the Nokia 2.3, you can be rest assured that the update will be available in the first quarter of 2020.
The Nokia C1 comes with 1GB RAM, 16GB storage. It doesn’t however support 3G networks. It features a 5.45 FwVGA display. There’s a 5MP rear camera with flash, and a 5MP front camera. It is powered by a 2500mAh battery. It competes directly with the Xiaomi Redmi Go.
