Spotify shares data on the most streamed Artists and Podcasts in Kenya

It has been well over a month since Spotify announced its expansion to the Kenyan market. And for the first time, the company has shared insights on what Kenyan users are listening to the most on the platform. The app is yet to include data from Kenya within the CHARTS section. But they’ve shared an infographic on listenership in the country based on data from February 23rd to March 22nd 2021.

According to the company, the first 30 days have seen Kenyan listeners navigating the vast world of music discovery with the list of the top-streamed artists consisting mainly of international hitmakers.

According to the data, Drake and Sauti Sol were the leaders amongst the most streamed artists. The love for Hip-Hop made Drake land the number one spot in the top-streamed artist’s category, with Kenya’s beloved band Sauti Sol coming second. Cardi B’s ”Up“ is the most streamed track on Spotify in Kenya in the first 30 days, followed by Drake with “What’s Next“ and 6LACK and Lil Tjay’s “Calling My Phone”.

Spotify says they have more than 100 expertly curated playlists across some of the most popular genres in the continent.

Today’s Top Hits is the most popular playlist in the first month after launch, reflecting how Kenyans are starting off strong by listening to musicians and tracks from around the globe. The second most listened to playlist is “RapCaviar,” followed by “Mood Booster” and “African Heat”, which features prominent Kenyan artists such as Blinky Bill, Bensoul and Nyashinski.

When it comes to podcast consumption, Spotify Originals and Exclusives seem to resonate with listeners in Kenya with The Joe Rogan Experience coming in first and President Obama’s podcast with Bruce Springsteen Renegades: Born in the USA taking fourth place.

Residents of Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, and Eldoret account for the most Spotify streams in Kenya.
