Huawei’s AppGallery now supports M-Pesa in-App Payments

Huawei Mobile Services has today announced a big move that will see the company integrate Safaricom’s M-Pesa as a payment option on its AppGallery App Store. You can now make purchases of your favourite Apps Games, Themes, and more with M-Pesa.

Direct Carrier Billing (DCB), as it is called, allows users to make purchases using M-PESA.

This means you can now pay for all your favourite offerings from Huawei through Direct Carrier Billing. This is an efficient, smart, simple, convenient, and secure method of paying.

Speaking of the new directive, HUAWEI Mobile Kenya Country Head, Jim Zhujie, said, “At HUAWEI, our users are at the heart of everything we do and we are constantly looking at ways to increase their overall experience with our products. I am excited about our HUAWEI and M-PESA partnership with Safaricom, as this new additional method of online payment is not only hassle free, but also so much more convenient.”

“With in-app billing, HUAWEI AppGallery users are able to purchase additional in-game content or features such as bonus levels or special characters, subscriptions to some of our exciting products such as HUAWEI Music, Huawei Mobile Cloud, and many more.”

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said, “We are proud to partner with HUAWEI to offer our customers the simplicity of purchasing from HUAWEI Mobile Services using M-PESA. This shows that our customers are increasingly adopting digital offerings and we are continuously looking to meet this demand with fresh offerings that will add value to our customers. As we continue to roll out our 5G network, we believe that the demand for smarter apps will increase and we want to ensure that our customers enjoy the benefits of a modern connected life in an easy, convenient and safe way.”

The Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) service offers customers a multitude of benefits, including:

  • A smooth customer experience: DCB is convenient. There is no need to sign up for any additional accounts or fill out any forms. Payments are completed in a matter of seconds and provide the best checkout experience on mobile devices, where filling out forms is time consuming and cumbersome.
  • Protected consumer identity: Making payments with DCB is secure. No personal data is transmitted during the payment process so there is no need to worry about identity theft. It also always requires the user to confirm the payment on a physical device and thus makes card-not-present type fraud impossible, increases consumer trust and as a result, improves the payment conversion rate.
  • No bank account! No Problem: DCB helps unbanked customers to purchase online content and services. In emerging markets, DCB is often the only way for them to do this. Digital content and physical services merchants are increasingly relying on Direct Carrier Billing as a payment method.
