Nowadays, companies are employing the most amusing and peculiar methods to garner attention in the news. OnePlus appears to be following suit, as they tease what could be termed the “OnePlus Fold.” This tease first came to our attention in the MKBHD iPhone review video. As the camera zooms in to demonstrate the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 25x maximum zoom, viewers can spot the text “ONEPLUS FOLD” displayed on the screen that one of the team members is using. Adjacent to the text, there’s even a “burning in hell” meme.
The second instance occurred in a video featuring an Indian actor, who casually showcased the foldable phone in a public setting, seemingly inviting the press to capture photos of its rear.
These two instances undeniably suggest the likelihood of an official announcement for this device in the near future. It would be logical for such a device to debut soon, given that it’s peak tech announcement season. The iPhone 15 has already launched, the Pixel 8 is scheduled for release next week, and numerous other companies have either launched or are on the verge of launching their devices.
According to leaks from a while back, OnePlus may opt to name the device the “OnePlus OPEN,” deviating from the norm, as most companies simply call their foldable devices “FOLD.” Leaked renders and speculations hint at a camera design reminiscent of the Google Pixel FOLD, and the overall design appears somewhat similar to the OPPO Find N2.
As for specifications, the OnePlus Fold/Open is rumored to feature a 6.3-inch 120Hz OLED cover screen and a 7.8-inch flexible OLED inner folding screen with a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The device is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, equipped with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and supported by a 4,800mAh battery that offers 67W fast charging.
On the camera front, the OnePlus Fold/Open is rumoured to sport a triple-camera setup including a 48MP primary, 48MP ultra-wide, and a 64MP telephoto shooter. Selfies will be taken care of by a 32MP front camera on the external display and a 20MP front camera on the inner folding display. Hasselblad branding is also expected.
Other notable features based on consolidated leaked information say that we may see a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, an alert Slider, dual-SIM 5G connectivity, and an exceptionally durable hinge rated for up to 400,000 folds.
