
More than 150 local and international exhibitors are gearing up to participate in the upcomingΒ Propak East Africa 2025 expo, set to take place fromΒ 20th to 22nd MayΒ at theΒ Sarit Expo CentreΒ in Nairobi. The announcement, which was made onΒ 30th April 2025, marks a renewed focus on sustainable packaging, printing, and food processing solutions in response to the mounting climate and waste crisis.
Unwrapping the Future: Eco-Conscious Industry Players to Converge
Under the themeΒ βUnwrapping the Future,βΒ this yearβs event will highlight environmentally responsible technologies across the packaging, printing, plastics, beverage, and food processing industries. The showcase will spotlight innovations designed to reduce environmental impact and promote circular economies, a topic of urgent relevance in Kenya and across the globe.
Angela Kinyua, Managing Director atΒ Montgomery Group East Africa, which is organizing the event, said this yearβs edition promises to be bigger and more impactful than before.

Urgent Shift to Greener Alternatives
Kinyua emphasized that alternatives to current polluting materials already exist, but awareness and adoption remain low.
βIf you look around, youβll notice many of the materials currently in use can be replaced with affordable, high-quality, and eco-friendly alternatives. The solutions existβitβs now about creating awareness and driving action.β
This aligns with global warnings about escalating waste. According to theΒ World Bankβs What a Waste 2.0 report, the world generates more thanΒ 2 billion tonnesΒ of municipal solid waste annually, a figure expected to rise toΒ 3.4 billion tonnesΒ in the coming decades if unchecked. In Kenya alone,Β NEMAΒ estimates thatΒ 8 million tonnesΒ of waste are generated annually, much of which ends up in illegal dumpsites or pollutes waterways.
