Samsung only launched the Galaxy A27 5G yesterday after months of anticipation, with sales set to officially begin on July 3 in select markets. But if there’s one thing Kenyan smartphone retailers are known for, it’s getting their hands on new devices before the official local launch.
That’s exactly what’s happened with the Galaxy A27 5G.
Local retailer Kype IT Solutions is already advertising the new phone for KES 47,000 for the 8/256GB model, despite Samsung Mobile Kenya yet to acknowledge the device’s global launch, let alone announce local availability. It’s another reminder that in Kenya, “official launch” and “available to buy” are often two completely different timelines. We saw it happen with the Galaxy A37 and A57, which became available to buy in Kenya ahead of the official launch.

When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A27 5G, its European starting price of β¬349 translated to roughly KES 51,400. At the time, we noted that direct currency conversions rarely reflect Kenyan retail pricing once taxes, distributor margins, and local market dynamics come into play. And sure enough, the first local listing undercuts that estimate by around KES 4,000.
That said, KES 47,000 is still a significant asking price for Samsung’s newest A2x-series phone. In fact, it makes the Galaxy A27 the most expensive Galaxy A2x device Samsung has ever launched. Unfortunately, this isn’t happening in isolation. Smartphone prices have been creeping upwards across the industry, driven in part by ongoing memory supply constraints. Apple recently increased prices for several of its latest products, and the ripple effects are being felt throughout the Android ecosystem as well.

The bigger question is whether the Galaxy A27 is actually worth KES 47,000. Based on current local pricing, perhaps not.
The same retailer is also selling the Galaxy A57 (8/256GB) for KES 49,000, just KES 2,000 more. Considering the A57 sits two tiers above the A27 with better hardware and more premium features, it’s difficult to justify choosing the cheaper model unless pricing changes once Samsung officially launches the phone in Kenya.
For now, the Galaxy A27 5G may have arrived earlier than expected, but unless its price drops further, the Galaxy A57 or even the Galaxy A37 look like the smarter purchase for most buyers.
